I haven't reworked the entry pages to showcase that we have the engine components available now but I have at least added the rudimentary product pages for them so you can order them.

Cdiger, shoot me an email, we should talk about boost levels for you, and when are you gonna let me put in that IC

Pistons
So Mike, when do you plan on starting to fit the pistons and filing all of the ring clearances? I'm sure you will let us know how it goes.

There are very detailed instructions for the rings in the ring specification sheet inside the box of rings.
I don't have a time table for putting my engine together. I'm anxious to geet it done too but I have a lot on my plate and there is still only one of me. Quote:

I have started saving now where do I go to get more info, so we can check them out ourselfs.
Thanks for showing us some great part for a engine rebuild, which I am now planning.

He means new bearings of course. Don't anybody start thinking about popping new pistons/rings in without cracking open the block. I am hearing more and more stories of main bearing failure but not because of increased power outputs. People are just wearing them out. For a few years now people have been swapping in engines from the later model SVXii with lower miles when their engines have gone out. Now we are basically out of lower miles SVXii engines and it's time for us all to start getting familiar with building the EG33.
As the front runner in this I can share some warnings that may help others, particullary those who don't want to buy these pistons. The availability of the factory pistons is poor. I've been waiting months now for a right A piston. If you want to stay stock do yourself a favor and rebuild your engine before it fails so you can re-use your pistons and just re-ring them. Quote:

Tom are you going to swap out the blower for a turbo? I don't think there's a pulley small enough for 20-30psi on your current setup..?

I'm not sure which blower Tom is using, but there are physical limits to what even the big blowers can produce.
The twin screw model, which Tom has, I think, this is better for handling high boost. That's why Mike picked it in the first place. Even so, regardless of what small pulley you use to spin it up, beyond a certain boost level it will be subject to leaking pressure back through the rotors. I'm not sure what max boost is with Whipples, but I'm thinking maybe 25 lbs. Even with 8.5 CR and these new pistons, if you go to high boost without charge cooling, the in-cylinder temperatures will be too high. So, if high boost high horsepower is planned, it will have to be done with cooling. I do expect anyone building a high horsepower engine will already be planning this. [Actually, guys, I wonder if it would be possible to boost the EG33 using the supercharger + turbocharger method Volkswagen use with their hi-tech 1.4 Fsi engine? That would be a worthwhile mod. ] Joe

I don't believe Tom is shooting for those kind of boost pressures. Just because the pistons are designed to handle those kind of boost pressures doesn't mean it's suddenly and magically feasible to start driving around town at 35 psi on pump gas.
The supercharger systems I put out last year are not designed to run that kind of boost either. They are not aftercooled or easily aftercoolerable; that means they are limited to the 12ish psi which Tom and SickSubie already have pullies for. Quote:
