Come on guys, these people are people too. It is amazing how some people dont recognize that people can make mistakes and change. It is ok to be cautious but don't think they are crazy or anything. At the age of 13 one of my best friends was a 27 year old guy who was a registered sex offender for "raping" a boy. Never had a problem with it, he called my parents after he met me and told them the "situation" he was in and that if they didn't want me to be around him they should tell me now and stop me from going over there. They told me and allowed me to make my own decision. Next time I was around him he made sure my parents told me, called them to confirm, was surprised he was considered human unlike everyone else in the neighborhood who looked upon him as a spawn from hell itself. The guy was a great guy and genuine person who could not have been more nice to me and everyone else despite the fact that they were all pricks to him.

The guy got me interested in cars, helped me further myself in martial arts, taught me how to do fire poi, let me take a few rides in his ferrari, and was a great guy. I am not avocating to send your children off to play with sex offenders, but please look at them as real people.

And before you people bash on my parents for allowing me to do what I did, understand that I am a special case. I knew how to defend myself and at the age of 13 had two different blackbelts in two styles and was open state martial arts champion when I was 12. Had it not been for my age my hands would have been registered deadly weapons with the police department (which happened at 16). + my parents are open minded and trust people. Yes, something could have happened to me, but the fact is, it didn't.

You have to realize that sex offenders make it appear to people that they change, but that's just so they can get back into the real world just so they can earn peoples' trust....and then .....they do it again.
They have an addiction man...and a sick one.

Not all of them have an addiction. Yes, some of them will be repeat offenders but just as many never do it again. Not all of them are even guilty. Children make terrible witnesses they say what they think the adult wants to hear, they makeup what they have forgot, they lie without realizing it, and they are extremely easy to lead on the witness stand.

Bwb3 you can call call the sex offender registry and ask if they know about it.

The sex offender that lives near me is a very nice man. I wouldnt let him play with my boyfriends 4 year sister but i do wave when i drive past him while he mows his lawn.

Perhaps they have a smaller list of non-offenders

Often Meaningless

The sex offender list in many states and cases is meaningless. People are on the list that should not be---like a woman that took her son and fled in a custody battle. Because of the ages and criminal act of stealing her own son--she has to register as a sex offender. What about a just turned 18 year old boy that has consensual sex with a 15 year old girl (his girlfriend) 15 days under her 16th birthday. Is that the same as a 35 year old man sexually assaulting an 8 year old girl or boy---not hardly. Who should be on the list and is the most likely to be a repeat offender? Lists become totally meaningless when you mix orange and apple sex offenses.

Just my opinion.

I dont think you have all the facts on either of those cases.

For the 18 year old boy to be charged the girl or her parents had to press charges. I dont think an 18 year old boy should be having sex with a 15 year old no matter how close to her birthday it is. He's an adult, she's a young teenager.

I doubt the woman who stole her child had was placed on a sex offender list for kidnapping her own child unless she had abused the child in some way or the court had reason to believe she intended to do it.

Yes, not all the sex offenders on the list are dangerous to the ppl around them but if you had a 14 year old daughter and the boy who lived next door had been charged with statutory rape would you not like to know it? Or if you had young kids would you not like to know the man who lives behind you a convicted child molester? The list isnt great but it does provide us with enough info to protect ourselves and our kids from known sex offenders. Would you rather we have no list, no idea where they all live, and we let them possibly repeat the offense with no prior warning only to find out after the attack that the person was convicted on two other counts of the same crime?

How can you say the cases are meaningless? B/c there are some that are lesser grades than some others? Its all sex crimes no matter what the offense was and those crimes have to be punished.

If a boy got off with having sex with a girl 14 days before her birthday and they let him get off then they would have to let off a guy who had sex with a girl 28 days before her b-day and then a guy who had sex with a girl 42 days before her b-day and then a guy who had sex with a girl 56 days before her b-day and then a guy who had sex with a girl 70 days before her b-day and then a guy who had sex with a girl 84 days before her b-day and then a guy who had sex with a girl 98 days before her b-day and then a guy who had sex with a girl 112 days before her b-day and so on until the the legal minimum age is so low that its non exist. In just 26 cases of statutory rape the legal age minimum would drop one year if they let one guy get off for having sex with a girl 14 days before her birthday. Its called prior precedent. If one guy gets off it sets the mood for similar cases to follow.

I know of one person who is a convicted sex offender.

Well.... I may know more, ya never know. I don't think people would actually come in a room saying: "Hi! My name is George, and I'm a convicted pedophile!!"

(HI GEORGE!! (applause))

Anyway, this 19 year old guy apparently was at a mini-party at some friend's house. This friend had a 14 year old sister who was there. Everyone is drinking, etc. You can fill in the blanks from here on the lust at first sight, hour of drunken flirting, trip to bathroom/bedroom, parents eventually finding out, etc.

So!! The guy spends 4 years in prison, the girl was sent to some delinquent facility by her parents for 2 years cause she threw a brick at her mother or something to that effect. The friend that owned the house had a transmission smack him in the head, he blew it off, and died 4 days later thinking he had a bad headache.

So the moral of all this is clear. ALWAYS! Be assured the transmission is properly supported when disconnecting from the engine, and never take a continuous headache lightly.

Oh... afterthought... He's 31 now, and delivers pizzas. The information I have on the story is his side only. But he seems sincere enough, and the account he gave sounds logical.
