Power steering woes

I have a 93 SVX with 114k miles on it and it has a power steering problem
My dad took the car in to the dealer (I don't know which one, I'm writing this from Taiwan while he's in the US) for the 120k mile service. The dealer said there was a problem with the power steering (I noticed this like the day I got the car)

We changed the belts a few times after getting the car and it seemed to help but after a week or two the problem would come back up (squealing noise and hard to turn, even pushing back against the turn). This got to be a hassle so we left it until now.

The dealer wants to charge my dad 2300to fix this system (that's half the car) and another shop wants 600-700. I haven't done the O-ring replacement nor have i flushed the system, but would either of those help my problem?

Is there anyone in the Bay Area that could help me check this stuff [im not really familiar with under the hood] (along with the TPS possibly?)?

thanks

It sounds like the O-Ring would solve your problem. So simple and so inexpensive, most dealers will charge and replace the PS pump with a big smile on their face. Not all of them, but some of them. Look in the How-To Documents to see what to do. If you still are not sure, post again, and I may have a better one by then. Good luck. Hope this solves it for you.

Hopefully it will, I hope I'll be able to read up on it more before im back in the states and can acutally check out my car (and drive it, by the time im back its going to be 7weeks that i haven't driven it). If it doesn't work out in the end though...damnit ill drive that car without power steering.

I just got back from my buddies garage ( nice when you have a buddy with a lift.) We changed the O ring o by the way I may have missed the part about removing the bolt that holds the tank to the block . well we changed the O ring flushed 3 Quarts of ATF thu the pump. I ran the car turning full left and right while my friend held the hose in a bucket connected to the return line and poured 2 qts of new fluid into the res. Then we tightened the fan belt 4 or 5 more turns on the adj. screw. Much better now. still have a little skip and a slight resistance in the wheel. Could be the Goodyear Ice and snows on the front.
