Has anyone ever done this???
Well, I've checked all over the place and not one repair shop will remove that stupid rattlin' resonator because of some EPA regulations or something. So, I guess dad and I are gonna attempt it. I was wondering if anyone here has removed the resonator from their SVX and replaced it with a straight pipe? And if so, do you have any tips for me? Any kind of input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

Odd
Well, the EPA crap says you cannot modify anything IN FRONT of the factory cats. The resnator is much further down than the cat and is not a legality. I have a straight pipe in mine, yet I paid a shop $20 to cut that crappy piece of noise rattling junk out and replace with a pipe. It was an exauhst shop too.
Sorry if that doesnt help, but you might want to remind the shop about that. Good luck,

I got the same BS from the local Meineke - apparently they can't tell a resonator from a cat. I had an indpendent muffler guy replace the resonator with an 18" glasspack. If you search about a bit, you'll find another thread on this topic, with a very nice explanation from ob_au about why the resonator is there, and the possible disadvantages of having a straight pipe replace the resonator.

this is just a simple cut and torch job.
cut out the resonator and weld in the straight pipe. if you have the equipment it should take no time. any mom and pop muffler or brake shop should be able to do this for you. i paid $50 back when i still had my stock exhaust.
