wow.... this is a saturn?

http://www.saturn.com/saturn/showroo...ne.jsp?nav=270

this is the first saturn i've liked.... i wonder how much msrp would be..... i've heard that the saturn's customer service is by far the best and also that in the recent years the reliability of the cars are becoming quite good.....

I'd say it's crashed head on into the ugly tree - and at quite a speed.

Saturn is a GM company isn't it? Is this a US variant of the Vauxhall Astra?

Phil.

Sport Compact Car dida review of it...they pretty much hated the way it handled, drove, rode, accelerated, and braked. Other than that they love it.

Yes, Saturn shares it's bodies with alot of other European cars... I thought it was the Opel Astra though... What happened to Opel??? In australia it's called the Holden Astra... same damn cars all over the world... Just diffrent names... Like the new Pontiac GTO... Australian design and construction... Holden Mondeo..

Vauxhall in the UK, Opel in Europe.

(do you mean Holden Monaro?)

Re: wow.... this is a saturn?

I like it as well. The Ion Redline has the same over-the-top styling as the neon SRT-4, Lancer Evo and Subaru STI, but that kind of styling fits well into the segment of buyers who are attracted to them. Maybe GM still has a few kinks to work out...but at least this Saturn can move!

-Chike

P.S. A few months back Car and Driver had a preview and I think MSRP was estimated to be $19,995 or thereabouts.

My favorite comment about the ION from a car magazine was:

'They must not have driven their competitors' cars.'

So when I see somebody driving one, I have to wonder whether they drove the competition first. I suspect not.

Yea, it's good to see that GM is finally doing something in the small car performance like this... And I have a decient amount of respect for the ECOTec engine, since it is designed by LOTUS. But in the end "It's still a (Saturn)GM"

i guess the front end is a matter of personal opinion.... and i guess i'm lacking in conventional taste in that category.... (i didn't thinkt he aztek looked that bad)

besides, chances are there will be tons of aftermarket parts for this car as the domestic compact market is really picking up with the popularity of the focus and the neon and such.... so i won't be surprised if peopel start putting..... skyline style front bumpers on this car... (not that i'm saying it'll look nice, i just can see people doing it)

i mean, if the red line is going to be 20000 out the door, which other cars are considered its competitor? are there any offerings out there below the 25000 msrp mark that 'intends to put performance on its priority'

20k will net you a saturn redline... or an SRt4. I don't see how there's even a choice.

I'm inclined to agree. This Ion Redline thing is just a dumb 'me too' sort of thing and doesn't seem to stack up.
