Acceleration lag below 2000 rpm.

Well my SVX is developing a problem. Oh blast
Below 2000 rpm it just bogs down and then at 2000 rpm it takes off.
There are no warning lights on.
Any ideas?

Dirty air filter? Bad MAF sensor? Dirty throttle body? Old spark plugs? Dirty fuel injectors?

Okay the air filter is new and so is the fuel filter and the gas mileage is normal at about 25mpg. The car also idles fine. So it could be the MAF? That is possible it has 189,999 miles on it.

When is the last time you cleaned the throttle body?

I cleaned the throttle body about a year ago when I put in this used engine. It was not that dirty before the cleaning. No lip by the throttle plates. I will have to have a look at that now. That black stuff would be from piston ring blow-by oil in the throttle body. More of a problem from running the engine hard for an extended period of time. I did that last spring when I ran a Time Trail at Pocono speed way. I think I averaged about 8 mpg and the power light never went out. Total time on the track was about one hour.

It seems to be more of a low rpm problem. I am thinking that it could be the TPS or the alternator voltage is low at low rpm.

Well it was the throttle body that needed cleaning.
I am surprised. Cleaning out a little bit of black soot from the TB has made a big difference. I think I will have to clean that about every 6 months

My car never had this low rpm power problem before. It's been fine for a year. So I think it makes sense that it was something that got dirty. I think it's from the racing I did back in the spring. The engine may have pulled a lot of oil into the TB. Currently oil consumption is 1 qt in 1500 miles.

Actually the old original engine never had this problem at all. Also the TB stayed clean on that engine.

Thank you for your help.

did you just hold the blades open and wipe off that which you couldreach, or did you go all out and take it off. I wiped around and used some tb cleaner and still have a hesitation, it almost feels sticky....anyways thats cool

I took off the plastic intake duct and hoses. Then held the throttle plates open with a screwdriver handle wedged in at the cable cam. I sprayed brake parts cleaner in the body and on the blades and wiped them off with a paper towel until clean. Then I left it open for a while to air dry. It was a rough start.

TB cleaning

AFter owning an SVX for a couple of years..
THis is one of it's quirks.

the hesitation around 2ooo rpms is normal on a cold for my car.
once it warms up all is fine.. There have been times things just didn't seem to be running right. Upon asking a few techs what could it be and getting some VERY expensive suggestions.
I figured I would just clean the TB plates and blow some soot off. This seems to be a GOOD Cure for ODD ball problems. Cause it's always Fixed the stumble, rough idle, Etc that pop up out of no where and go away just the same..

IT's an SVX and it's Quirky.
SPraying out the TB every 6 months is not a bad idea. And yeah it's a rough start for a min until all of it is burnt out.
Redline's Fuel system cleaner is suppose to help reduce this. there is Significant info on this.

SVX1999

PS I've never taken the TB off to clean it. NOt a bad idea as I'm sure it has several small passages that like to CLOG UP.
it's been discussed a 100 times over..
