Oxygen Censor.......

I'm not sure where I should post this.........But this looks like a good place.

Ok.....As many know, my idle on my SVX is very low, and when I put her into park, she dies most of the time.

My dad told me to start with an O2 censer.
I have no idea where I'll get the part(Either online, or a high priced auto part store)

I'm wondering which brand I should get, and everything.
AND.......
Is it an 'easy' job to do? I dont even know where the censer in my car is! And I have a feeling I'm going to be replacing it by myself.
I do have a Chilton book, but of course, it doesn't SHOW with pictures, alot about the SVX.

Those are my questions for now.

Is you CE light on? I highly doubt that it can be the O2 Sensor. I would think if you had a faulty sensor the CE would light up. How about cleaning the throttle body? Plugs? Fuel Filter? Anyone else have ideas? The OS Sensors are on the side of each exhaust outlet at the inner front bottom of your car. I hear that most O2 sensors are a PITA to get out. You can use some liquid wrench and soak them. You will also need to splice the wires once you get them out for replacement. Good luck!

My CE light??
Would that be one of the dash lights? If so, then no, there's no lights that are on.

I havn't actually done anything to my car, so I havn't cleaned anything you had mentioned

I guess now would be the time to start learning how to work on cars lol

If indeed you need them, Walker replacement o2 sensors were $65 each for me from automedic.com. They were a direct fit replacement- no splicing. They also have the universal ones that you have to splice for $35.

Exclamation O2 Sensors

I recently just installed 2 new O2 sensors in my SVX. Buy a can of PB Blaster Penerating Oil and let it soak in the threads and get a large vise grip, the oil really works, it was easy to take off. I bought my sensors at Kervin Subaru, talk to Mike Davis, he is a member here. Anway they are the cheapest, better that Subaruparts.com or 1stsubaruparts.com. Anway here are the prices online and at the local Suby dealer:

Subaruparts.com: $ 91.40 each
1stSubaruparts.com: $ 89.96 each
Local Subaru Dealer: $119.95 each

Kervin Subaru: $82.77 each

Part # 22690AA180
O2 Sensor for SVX

Talk to Mike Davis and tell him you are a member on the SVX Network.

Talking Call the Doc, I have no symptoms!

When I changed out my O2 sensors, my car was fine, no warning lights came on. The only reason I changed them out cause I thought it was just time to, plus I my car was already on jack stands installing a transmission cooler. I just thought I might get better gas milage if I change it out. My old O2 sensors are the orginal ones, never replaced since new and my car is a 1994 LSI

I'd try turning the idle up first.....

hate to burst a bubble

O2 sensors on the SVX are common.. replace in pairs and to the one mentioned the spray on oil.. He's telling the truth.

THe one on the passenger side is the bear to change out mainly the connector since it's in a blind spot.
and as for price.
I know I din't pay anymore then 70$ a piece for mine and that was a Subaru Replacement.
of course that was back in the Days of Larry At Cor Dalen.
in WA. He was great and very helpfull too bad WE can't get a Replacement for him..
hint hint.

another thing I have noticed about the SVX... If your car has been running fine and starts to idle a lil poor or run a lil foul.
Take off the air tube remove the egine cover that says ( boxer)
and spray some Carb cleaner on the throttel plates Does wonders. just make sure you put all the hoses back..

Just spraying out the throttel body has done vast improvements on my car.
open up the throttel and spray it down the throat! DO NOT empty the entire can or get too spray happy.
Your car may run rough for a min until all the cleaner is burnt off.
as far as my experience has been, every once in a rare MOON I will get a check engine light. Usualy I pull a Diagnostic code so far it's always been O2 sensors.
my guess is, they are either not warmed up and are giving a false reading back to the computer which throws the CE light.
it always goes away.
the O2 sensors are easy to spot. just look mid ways on your exhaust , you will find them, it's the only thing that has a Wire connected to it on the exhaust system.
Right as it starts to V off..

Also check fuel filter , air filter, sounds to me like things are just dirty.. Get some BG44k injector cleaner that also works wonders.
BG products can be found at most any dealership.

Happy Drive'n

As suspect items the O2 sensors are NOT top of the list.

First check the TPS and its setting as well as the actual mechanical throttle for proper travel. Also the air control solenoid valve.
