Shudder at stop

Anyone recognize the characteristics of a "shudder" from the engine or tranny while coming to a stop?

It's a '92 SVX with 120k. It, of course, is not consistent but us really disturbing when it does it. Also, the engine has died twice when this occured.

Any ideas? It's vague but I'm just looking for thoughts on it.
