Hood/trunk strut solution
Saw this @ the Subaru show on a Forester, made by Enduratech, might be able to make a set of these work on an SVX, and they're shorter and more out of the way than the stock ones.

Re: Hood/trunk strut solution
For my hood struts, I just ordered some off of SPD's site with the correct dimensions (check my sig) and bought some extra hardware to fit them to the stock mounts. For the trunk struts, I bought the Lift Support Depot kit for $50 and it works like stock. Overall cost me no more than $85 for everything.
