updated auto swap ?

I know a few members have done 5/6 manual swaps.

But i wonder if anyone has done later auto updates say to 4/5 or 6 speed ?. If so what types ?.

It is just that with a later auto the side benefit might be better fuel economy and a more robust gearbox.

Any thoughts.

One has been done to date succesfully. It was to a phase 2 4eat. The amount of time that went into the wiring alone makes the swap financially undoable if you're paying a shop to do it. If doing yourself, it's possible, but you will spend countless hours on the wiring.

Phase 1 4eat=all subaru 4 spds until ~98
Phase 2 4eat=all subaru 4 spds after ~98 (and subsequently, the 5eat is also a phase 2 transmission)

At the same time, all engine wiring was changed around as well as those engines became known as phase 2 engines while the earlier were phase 1. However, nothing is really different engine wise that makes the engines incompatible with earlier/later as long as intake manifolds and engine harness is swapped. The transmissions however, are completely different in how they function as well as the electronics.

Re: updated auto swap ?

The Phase 2 box uses a multi plate clutch instead of a brake band for the 2nd gear.
It also has another speed sensor on the output of the converter's turbine, that is used by the ECU to gauge the amount of torque, the engine is under, so that a better use of the gears can be made to help fuel economy.
Unfortuanly this signal can't be used in the SVX ECU.

I think this Torque signal was mistaken for another, engine torque cut that the box has also.

Harvey.
