Keith,
I do not wish to argue or create an issue, but I would not like members to be incorrectly informed, particularly if they are trying to locate the actual high resistance fault. The inhibitor switch is certainly in the line to the starter solenoid. In many cars the security system interrupt relay contacts are also in the circuit. However Harvey is wrong in claiming the brake switch is included in the starting circuit. P.S. I have now found after perusing several wiring diagrams, that there is also a parallel connection to the MPFI control unit, no doubt to sense engine cranking. All the best, Trevor.

Well, for the sake of furthering the discussion, having replaced the ignition switch, what next, if not a relay as illustrated above?

You are right, Trevor!
So what's new? LOL
Thanks for the clarification. Sorry, I was referring to the only contacts involved to the beginning point of the 8+ Volts. But I should have said it differently. (I knew what I was thinking!) This voltage drop at the ignition switch absolutely blows my mind, totally Trevor, could it be caused by a erratic malfunctioning diode? Cheers, Keith Quote:

A faulty diode either open, the most likely fault, or shorted would affect the cruise control safety function. Only a shorted diode which is unlikely, could impose a load on the start circuit via the inhibitor relay and is likely to also cause cruise problems. Not likely, as was my judgement, but stranger things have happened.

Re: Ignition switch pics
I too have to jump back in here and tip the bill of the cap to Kuoh for the great pics and description of steps to change out that !#@$!@ ignition switch. I lived with this problem for YEARS!!! I could hear what appeared to be the solenoid clicking each time I tried to start my SVX followed by the dash and indicator lights dimming if I held it. Had 2 different dealerships change my alternator and my starter plus advise me to replace the battery and of course none of those things solved the problem.
After Googling and finding his post, I tore that puppy apart myself and tonight, with the help of (2) #8-1.25 allen head screws to replace the security bolts I had to drill out, put in a new ignition switch. Just like MAGIC the intermittent starting problem that was gradually getting worse and worse was gone. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You and Hallelujah!!! Now I can finally get back to enjoying the ride of my '94 SVX again. Thanks Kuoh! Dan's SVX (not so) Blues Last edited by DansSVXBlues; 09-05-2008 at 12:52 AM. Reason: Added Symptom |

Re: Ignition switch pics
I would take the new ignition to a locksmith and have them recode it so you can use your old key.

Re: Ignition switch pics
can you not just replace the electrical switch, without replacing the lock tumbler section?
I recently re-keyed my motorcycle, and it was possible there, and that is pretty tight confines.
