What type/brand of coolant

should I be using? I am new to the SVX world. I know certain Honda's call for special blends.

coolant

there's lots of brands - just make sure it says it's silicate free. The old style antifreeze had silicants in there that were tough on water pump seals (You can think of it like tiny grains of sand). Changing the water pump is a major job on the SVX, best done when its time for a timing belt change since that has to come off first anyway.

Re: What type/brand of coolant

This thread was found using a search and had an appropriate name. It is old and I would like to fill it with some more detailed info. What coolant is the majority of SVX owners using? I have an old bottle of peak in the garage that I'm not sure if I should use.

Re: What type/brand of coolant

I use the Prestone, its now advertised as long-life and "mix with any type of coolant". Ive been running the car in stop and go in 110 degree heat here in the high desert on my A1 Cardone waterpump...so far so good.

Re: What type/brand of coolant

I just wanted to know if the subaru stuff was worth it. They do sell cooling system conditioner after all. For the life of my SVX I have been using Prestone, the peak was purchased for my Rabbit. Tomorrow I'll have to show you Subaru's new and improved thermostat.

Re: What type/brand of coolant

I use SIERRA pg http://www.sierraantifreeze.com/ from Old World Industries, Inc

from http://www.zrxoa.org/forums/showthread.php?t=97351
I checked with Sierra and they say their coolant contains 250ppm of silicates. How does that compare to Engine Ice, LowTox or Honda's coolant.
FYI, this is a statement from Sierra/Peak:
"The Kawasaki is an Asian manufactured motorcycle and requires a Silicate
free antifreeze. I would recommend installing our PEAK GLOBAL ANTIFREEZE
which is Silicate free.
PEAK Tech Dept."

and more reading http://choppercharles.com/cs/forums/3821/ShowPost.aspx

http://www.tractorsupply.com/automot...oolant-0836045 have been using it for years

and for our four-legged friends http://www.beaglesunlimited.com/beag...epoisoning.htm
