cigarette light trim removal

Hi!
I've searched but nothing clear.

Does anyone have any clue on the possibility of removing the cigarette lighter wood trim piece without taking out the entire dash console?

I've managed to unscrew the upper screw from the back but only to find that there is another screw at the lower bottom; which just seems not reachable at all unless directly from the back of the console..

anyone? much appreciated!!

Re: cigarette light trim removal

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you have to remove the entire "visor" assembly to remove the lighter trim. I've never been able to remove one with the visor installed.

Re: cigarette lighter unit/trim removal

I would like to know how to do this too. I intended to replace my lighter socket at the same time I recently replaced my stereo head unit. Figured it would be a good time to do it.
Wrong.
I ran into the same situation. There seems no way to do it without removing the entire console. There certainly was no way apparent to me that the visor (stereo door?) had anything to do with it, it seems the only useful way is to disassemble to the rear - but I'm sure I could be off on that.

Re: cigarette lighter unit/trim removal

Are you trying to replace the cigarette lighter assembly? If not, why do you want to take it out?

Removing it can be done by removing only the ash tray, I have done it.

Alss do an advanced search by typing in "lighter" as the keyword and svxcess or aredubjay as the user name,

There is a nut that screws onto the back of the socket, which holds the socket to in place.

If the lighter is not working, you may have blown the fusible link on the back of it. I replaced it on my new socket with a solid piece of wire so I would never have to do this again.

Re: cigarette lighter unit/trim removal

to remove the lighter TRIM you pretty much have to remove the center dash pice unless you have some funky screwdriver. after the radio is out it doesnt take long to get it all out frist time i did it about 15 min or so.

Re: cigarette lighter unit/trim removal

I did manage to take the upper screw out but only to find that there is another screw at the bottom end; which I could not even find "access" to...

I need to remove the trim for real carbon fiber wrapping.. any help? thanks!

John - thanks for the info, that's a great thread. My lighter socket stopped working after I had plugged in an air compressor. I suspect that fusible link blew. I had searched the fuse panels for a blown fuse but they were good, that would explain it. I'll also try the fix of bending the interior tabs just to see if I get lucky.
