I have always liked the idea of drive tests every 5 years after 60 and every year after 80. I think that it should be made a law. I find a lot that elderly people like to drive the largest car that they can find, there are a lot of parking lot accidents, and road accidents caused by the eldery. I still do believe that the younger generation causes more accidents, which is why the driving age should be raised to 18. Washington State laws require that you are 18 to handle any type of alchohol, not drink, handle, it also requires that you be 18 to operate heavy machinary, yet at the age of 16 you are given the right to operate a deadly piece of machinary(cars). I understand that not all teenage drivers are bad drivers, but there are a lot of them out there that do not know what they are doing. I just really think that driving laws should be more strict in the us than they are currently.

One of the things that I remember thinking, standing there on the road waiting, was that I was glad I wasn't a young, inexperienced driver. Had I been 16 or 17, I know that I wouldn't have had the same reaction time and probably would have been in the midst of the aftermath before I could have stopped.
As much as I loved driving at 16 (and I flipped a car 6 mths after getting my license) I truly believe that both inexperienced drivers and elderly people need others to be with them, to coach them through situations. Colorado just changed the drivers license laws to make regular licenses good for 10 years, 5 years if you're over 65. I think that's ridiculous. First of all, your appearance changes in 10 years, secondly, I really think licenses should be renewed, including driving tests every two years. CDLs have to be renewed every 3 years, and whatever's good for commercial drivers, should be good for the average citizen as well. ~~Michelle

Maybe his driveshaft came loose. I know drag cars are required to have a drive shaft safety loop, because if the front end drops, it kicks the back end up in the air and causess the car to flip over and... well , you get the idea. Maybe check out the road for some sort of impact of the front of the driveshaft.

Of course you never know what might happen, but my point was that drivers should be taught how to deal with common mechanical failures and account for them in their driving. If blowing a tire or losing your brakes at your present speed will kill you and everyone around you, then you're going too fast - even if it's 30.

Here's the newspaper article. The picture shows the truck after it was turned back up on its wheels.
