Anyone replaced their radiator hoses?

I just noticed my top one is starting to split. Putting a new one in will be easy (duh) but anyone know if they're easily available?

They certainly should be. An auto parts store should have some which are basically universal - sometimes you have to trim sections off for your particular application.

Peice of Cake. It will take you longer to drain and refill then to change them.

45167PA000 Radiator Hose Inlet $9.20
45167PA020 Radiator Hose Outlet $9.20

For $26 bucks (with shipping) you can have genuine Subaru hoses at your door in about a week or take your chances at the parts store having to wait a week for them to get an aftermarket.

The hoses shouldn't be replaced with anything universal. When you bend it to fit, it can kink when warm and choke off your coolant causing overheat and destroying head gaskets.

I have nothing against molded to fit aftermarket hoses, they just never stock any SVX parts so I gave up making multiple trips cross town to the local parts store and just order over the phone from Subaruparts.com

Thats cool. What do you mean by 'inlet' though? I just need 'the upper radiator hose'. Do you mean inlet as in water goes INTO the radiator? Or what?

Inlet is the top hose, outlet is the bottom. Those are Subaru's descriptions.

If the top one is split, chances are the bottom isn't much better, you may want to pull off the under sheild and see what the lower hose looks like. Nothing is quite as fun as working on a car in January in Wisconsin.

Well I've been lucky, never seen WI in Jan, but I pulled, rebuilt, and reinstalled a Volvo engine in the driveway, in Jan, in MO. My wife wouldn't let me bring parts inside (I'm messy - can't help myself ) and couldn't afford to let somebody else do it.

At the other end, might try replacing a failed hose in FLA during August, as if there wasn't enough heat and humidity already.

I had to rebuild a Dodge A525 5 speed tranny in winter, so I took it out in the driveway, bought a bunch of cheap plastic dropclothes and bedsheets from Kmart and rebuilt in in the dining room.

At least Dodge had their head on straight and allowed it to be removed with less than half a dozen bolts, they were just really beefy bolts, like 5/8 diameter.

Of course I let it warm up (and me) for a few hours before I began rebuilding it.

My father-in-law has a favorite story concerning a VW transaxle rebuild in winter. Family lore tells a tale of the transaxle on the dining room table, but he swears that it was on the floor.

Lightbulb hose's by Subaru

Hey C$sh
I have replaced both of the radiator hose's.. Like Morphd, I went with the Subaru replacement..
FOr the same reasons. Plus if the factory hose had no trouble when I replaced it.. Just Good thought..
I was replacing the radiator and figured Why not go ahead and change the hose's..
Again I to got tired of running around town trying to see who had what.. IT all works out in the End..

26 bucks, and it's at your DOOR..

26 plus your driving time, gas, frustration, THEN you have to put them ON... Replace the bottom one as well.. They seem to age at the same rate. Gota love the plastic plate..
