What is the Acceleration Difference?

What is the difference between FWD and AWD Acceleration times? Which is faster?

I think the FWD is slightly faster due to the extra weight of the AWD components.

Also, on AWD there is a slightly greater loss of power in the drivetrain. I second the vote of FWD, assuming perfect traction, being quicker off the line.

Having had my same car be both, I will tell you that the FWD felt faster. It was also geared slightly lower. I am sure it would run a slightly faster 1/4.

I wonder how a RWD SVX would do... Has anyone ever converted to RWD?

I know someone did, do a search. I believe the person said the svx was tail happy as a rwd

Ive done it because of a blown front diff. it takes nothing to spin the rear wheels. Then once your rpms shoot up past 6k rpm it automatically shifts to 2nd even if its in "1". It was not very practical at all. Huck did a 5 speed RWD conversion that may have been more fun.

I think SubaFreak did the conversion... Not sure though... But someone took out the clutch packs and welded them together or something... I have heard roumors that a Nissan 300Z transmission will work with little/no modification... Good luck though. Jason Porter and I kicked the idea around a few times and after a few real world experiences we decided that a RWD SVX would be a crazy drift machine...

okay, i want to do some burnouts.

whats the easiest way to convert your 4EAT into a RWD transmission?
how long will this take and how much experience should one preferably have?

With an automatic, you could theoretically apply power to the transfer solenoid to lock the clutch in 50/50 power split, and remove the front axles, but I don't know how much torque they'll take without spinning.

With a 5 speed you can just weld the spiders in the center differential...

I'm sure you could machine something that would go into the tranny in place of the transfer clutch assembly that would lock it up front to rear, then just remove the front axles.

I've never done it with an SVX, but I had an old 84 4WD wagon that blew out a front axle.. I took the axle out and put the tranny in 4WD and just drove it like that for a while. It definately drove differently, since I drove it for a few months before I put front axles in it again so I had FWD.. (But front wheel e brake + rear wheel drive = massive burnouts!)

Did you see Sanya's black SVX at the shore meet?, that was a RWD in case you didn't.

I want to see what that would be like a rwd and also AWD, but I am with a FWD, which by the way is not hard to make the tires spin, specially when you are trying to pull out of somewhere.

yeah, my old fwd was um...Very bad at traction. plenty fast when it had it though. Ran a 15.6 my first run, and Im sure I could'v shaves a few tenths off if I played with tire pressures and got a better launch

but ill take the awd any day. It's not so much the speed of acceleration, it's how tidy it is when it does it

a for rwd, huck has a rwd 5 speed, as does sanya. Some gut in spain has done it as well, and Im prety sure a few other members here have done it. The 55 45 weight distribution and narrowish rear tires likely make it so unruley....But if you were to, say, do a widebody, and do some front end weight reduction, Im sure it could become practicalish
