I call mine Neptune, just because it's a good name that can be either feminine or masculine but obviously powerful. But I also call it Poseidon, because it takes me on adventures but i don't want to jinx myself and have it roll over, so I'll typically just stick to calling it Neptune

There is a case to be made for keeping it impersonal, you won't be mortally wounded if the bleedin' thing will not work for you.

On the other hand it is understandable that people give names to cars as terms of endearment, assign a personality as it were.

Me, I only get the hump when people assign full-fledged personalities to farmyard ducks and so on, pun intended.

Turning dumb animals into humans, or assigning human values like valour to predatory murdering big cats and so on, like the Watership Down sort of plotlines, now that's what makes me

Alan's right, we do have one of these threads every few months. I mostly ignore them, though I know I've replied to at least one with an actual name.

It didn't stick. I can't imagine actually calling a car a name and not feeling silly about it.

Since mine mostly sits in the garage and doesn't go anywhere, I call it 'the stupid pet car.'

My first SVX, I used to call it Plum because of the colour. It was more useful when writing about it than anything else, but I did think of it as "Plum". Plum trips more easily off the lip than " '91 JDM Claret and Black CXW."

My black car I called Black Betty because of the song. I actually think of that car all the time as Betty. This is interesting that it stuck, because I used to drink with an old friend who called his Morris Minor Traveler "Betsy".

We have 5 other cars, and none of them has earned or merited a name.

Mine's Penny, of course.
Moneypenny for long (mnypnny).

Most who know me don't ask "how's the SVX running?".... they always say "how's Penny?".

I've had several cars/trucks over the years and have never given them an identity. The SVX, for some reason, just demanded it. I can't explain why.

My new truck doesn't have a name or a gender yet. Just don't get the same feel from it.
