maybe that has to do with the original PS problem I had with that car... A reroute of power supply to the stereo "should" clear that up

Yes Trevor it seems much that... Free play. Let's say 2cms. But is it mechanical or electrical that I do not know... There's apparently no mechanic problem on my car that's why I go more in an electronic way... That speed related steering thing... A dead sensor???
You know I almost don't feel it at low speed... But like I said at 80 or 90 MPH the feeling is not good at all... You know it's like you do little trajectory corrections because of bad tarmac or a little turn and it does not react directly...Then you turn the wheel a bit more and bam, the car makes a fast move in the direction you want (at least it's not opposite! )
Well, let's be serious again: I don't like it and I even think it's dangerous!!!

Resistance rather than free play could usually be aligned with a fault in the power steering system. Free play as described, indicates a freedom of movement which is more likely to be something mechanically worn or loose.

However it could be related to an initial over pressure reaction, due to a control valve fault. I hope you will understand what I am getting at and can relate this to the feeling you are getting via the steering wheel.

You should get someone to move the steering wheel while you check if the road wheels exactly respond. Do this both with the engine running and stopped, i.e. with and without the power steering working.

I would treat anything suspect in the steering system as being possibly dangerous, as you point out. If you are unable to locate the problem, I would get things checked by steering specialists. Make sure they come up with a definite answer and the problem is fixed.
