Canon XT Rebel w/18-55mm lense
Is $559 for a Canon XT Rebel w/18-55mm lense a deal?
Anyone familiar with the Nikon D50 or Canon XT Rebel? What's the best bang for the buck? |

That is actually a pretty good deal. You may also want to check out beachcamera.com it may be cheaper if not the same.
I just purchased the rebel XT with the 18-55 mm kit lens. You may want to purchase a new lens right off the bat as the kit lens really isn't that good. Are you just getting into photography? If so it should be fine, but once you get more advanced you will start to notice its shortcomings. It's overly soft at wide open apertures so in order to get it sharper I usually stop it down 2-3 f-stops but then I have to bump up the ISO in order to compensate for the slower shutter. You may want to look into the EF 28-105 F3.5-4.5 USM if that is the case. I already purchased a 50mm EF1.4 prime and am ordering the 17-40F4L as well as the 135mm F2L soon. As far as Nikon D50 vs. Rebel XT. They're pretty dead on close as far as image quality. The main difference is the Nikon is 6 mpixel, 5 AF Focus points and uses a SD memory card format whereas the XT has 8 megapixel sensor with compactflash and 7 AF Focus points. The XT uses the flash for the AF assist in very low lighting (but will not let you disable it) and the D50 has its own AF assist lamp. As far as which is better it really depends on what you want to do. Typically the entry level and lower end Nikon lenses are way better than the entry level and lower end (including the kit) lens from Canon. Canon typically has unrivaled high end lenses but that means wayyyy more $$. I have used both, and I already had some EF lenses so I went with Canon. I just took this yesterday with the F1.4 Lens.
