If your light blinks, the unit should enter programming mode. The "rapidity" of the "stabbing" has to be very rapid when going into program mode. And, you have to make sure your switch is OFF before you begin.

Then again the upgrade might be the replacement module that was a warranty item for the first year or so. The original module was a piece of work (nicest way to put it .) Now that it's probably been removed from the warranty section they're probably selling them off.

Actually, I never had a problem with the original module and I was pissed when they changed it telling me that functioality would not change and then finding that it did!! At the very least, they removed the true passive arming feature which generates the maximum insurance savings. In short they lied to me, then refused to restore it.
My understanding is that it was revised because too many toopid people out there were setting off their alarms because they did not understand "passive arming." First time I ever heard the term "upgrade" to refer to removal of features. What's next? An upgrade to a 4 cylinder engine? Quote:

Gary,
You and I are of one mind on this one. My firs "flame war" on Yahoo was over the Passive Arming feature. When I got my manuals, I noticed there was a "test" for it. Then, after I contacted Subaru, they told me it was "upgraded out." I was not happy.

What inquiring minds want to know, though, is if the newer module is any more reliable electromechanically than the original. My (assumed) original module isn't working correctly, and I'm going to replace it with either that one or a 3rd-party unit. ??
That's the easy stuff, though. Try to find a set of 225/50/R16-V's (any brand) on a Friday afternoon in Yakima. HAH! --jim |

I wonder how may units out there are actually originals, as the first unit truly sucked. My '94 has passive arming and it should have the second gen module from the factory, if I recall correctly.
It wasn't the passive arming that plagued mine, it was forever losing its programming, going off in the middle of the night while inside my garage (which was under the master bedroom) and refusing to accept new programming for a few days at a time. Before I picked up my current car I always said the first thing I would do is s***can the factory alarm for an aftermarket one. However the factory alarm has worked flawlessly, so far...

I had the problem about entering the programing mode with one of my transmitters, and took it to Subaru and one of the techs demonstrated how to get it into the mode. The trick is that when is says push the security button rapidly, they mean rapidly! kind of like a wood pecker working on a tree. Hope this helps.
