Transmission 2-3 shift - raise in RPMs?
Twice yesterday while driving my RPMs seemed to kinda jump up right before shifting into third. This seemed really odd at the times when it did that, especially since I was driving with my foot barely on the accelerator. I think in both instances I was driving on either flat road or a downgrade. When driving it harder it never has done it. I would think that if there was a problem then my RPMs would increase at the shift point when I'm driving it hard instead of like driving Miss Daisy? Maybe it just shifts like that because it's still not used to me driving so slow (I'm still getting used to the car). If it is a transmission at least I have it under warranty...

Transmissions work harder to create smooth shifts at slow speed. The Torque converter has more catching up to do. They don't usually work as hard at higher engine speed, because there isn't as much difference between engine speed and wheel speed.
Good thing it's still under warranty...sounds like you'll need it. |

The rpm should not increase during the shift no matter if you're driving easy or hard. It is true that a smooth shift is harder on a transmission than a firm or hard shift - kinda like slipping the clutch with a manual tranny. If you do a search for 'transmission' you'll find many posts with the same problem that end up needing a tranny. Some prolong the inevitable by disconnecting the resistor behind the battery (thereby raising the line pressure) but if you have a warranty you'd be crazy to do that. If the service dept. found that they might be nice enough to disallow your warranty.
