What the Hell has happened here...?

Hey all,
Started the car up this morning and heard a strange squeeling noise. Poped the hood and saw the belt driving the alternator had jumped a couple of grooves and was half off. Took off that plastic protector thing over the belt and saw this>> (see picture attached) . What my mechanic said is this 1 pulley isnt lining up with the other three and that is why the belt is slipping off

As you can see the pulley is literally drilling into the metal/plastic? Is making a hell of a noise.

Can you take a look at the picture and tell me what the hell is going on? My mechanic things something has fallen off the front of the pully or something was missed out behind the pulley when changing it?

How hard is it to get another one of these? Does anyother subaru model have this pully? Cheers a lot for your time.

-Adam

Yeah, that will work
Hey, spent the last couple of hours in the garage trying to fix it. Turns out the 2 bolts holding the pulley on had sheared off so it was just spinning loosely. Wondered where all my power had gone! Put two temp. bolts in there for now as I have to go to work at 5 tomorrow. Need to replace the pulley because the bolt holes have been enlarged and the thread is all screwed. Also the belt itself is on its last legs.

Does anyone know if a EJ20 pulley will fit?

Wow, change that belt while you are working on the pulley.

That is the crank shaft pulley.
Do not drive the SVX until you get the pulley replaced.
The pulley will keep moving and do much more damage.
It was not missing any bolts.
The holes you put bolts in are for puller bolts to get the pulley off.
If the bolts you put in are long they may reach thru the pulley to the parts in back.

This is a common problem on the SVX after many miles. Mine lasted 230k miles. The crank shaft pulley just comes apart and shifts. It's good to keep an eye on it.

You will alos need a new timing belt cover that has been chewed up by the crank pulley.

Check out this thread:

They're rebuildable, which is good because the replacement is considerably more expensive.

Okay, picked up a replacement off a early EJ20. Does anyone have any tips to get the bolt holding the pulley on , off?

Will I have to take it to my mechanic to get done?

Cheers/

forgot about this thread. Just wanted everyone to know that the EJ20 crank pulley is EXACTLY the same as the SVX. I got mine for $80 second hand off a early ej20. Cheers.
