Motorcycle Trailer on SVX
Hi guys!
I'm planning on getting a motorcycle in Jan of February and, of course, I'm planning on keeping my SVX forever! So, to make things compatible I may have to buy a motorcycle trailer for the car... I saw some on the net that weigh only 200 to 300lb. Adding the bike and some more crap on top I'd be pulling about 600-700 lb. Is this going to destroy my car? Is it possible at all??? I'm planning a drive form Seattle to Florida if I get accepted in grad school. That's a 3500 mile drive I'll be doing over a week. Here are the two trailers I'm considering... http://www.discount-trailers.com/sin...le_trailer.htm http://www.discount-trailers.com/fra...le_trailer.htm Any feedback is welcome. Thanks! Nick |

I would think that, as long as the tongue load wasn't that much, you'd be fine. The problem will probably be finding a hitch for the SVX. I know I've seen receiver hitches on SVXen...I just have no idea how much they were, what brand they were or what the owners thought of them.
I would also not recommend driving the SVX with a trailer behind it in any kind of snow.

Thanks for the info! I've never pulled a trailer before so I'll be careful. I wouldn't do the snow trick either So, you think pulling 800lb is safe? As I said, I'm completely incompetent on the issue... I thought I heard something about AWD cars not being fit for pulling trailers? Could lead to tranny problems maybe?

I was going to say that it would work better *behind* than *on*, but, it looks like you've got that worked out.
The founder of the UK Yahoo club uses his SVX to tow his classic race car. I should think a motorcycle should be no problem.

do you have a harbor freight store near you?
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...441&pricetype= 200 bucks for the utility trailer, the 50 for motorcycle rails (990 lb capacity).... I don't think Sears will, but if you find a trailer shop (ask at a boat dealer) they should custom fab one for you. The only one I've seen was a receiver type, horizontal bar with steel plates welded up so the hitch replaced the tow hooks on both sides. Locally they said about 200 for the hitch. Fortunately bought the wife a 4Runner last year so I never had to follow through. |

Some muffler shops also install hitches. You might check a few.
