Prerunner Buggy - Built NA EG33

Wanted to share our 4-seater prerunner buggy with fully built NA EG33. There doesn’t seem to be a specific sub forum to show the whole engine build and details but maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

A few highlights:
-100mm bore, Darton sleeves
-H beam rods
-MoTec engine management
-Dry sump
-6 into 1 stainless exhaust
-Top feed fueling

Steve Dimerjian of Race Engine Development in Oceanside, CA did the sleeves.

We decided to stay with hydraulic buckets and went with Delta 272 cams.

I originally got the engine as a turbo build for a sand car. It had a bunch of spun bearings but was cheap and came with good parts.

After tear-down we sent everything out for machining. Darton sleeves from Race Engine Development, cylinder hone and align bore at Danzio, valve job and head work at Paradise Motorsports.

We wanted to go back to NA for our application so we had CP Carillo make us some 100mm high compression pistons.

The engine came with ARP head studs which was a nice compliment to the h-beam rods and ARP rod bolts. We used ACL race bearings, Cometic MLS head gaskets and the short block came together.

The heads already had some mild porting, but we elected to stay hydraulic and Delta 272 cams.

To fit in our rear-engine buggy we needed to flip the intake manifold. I know you can relocate the alternator and accessories but we needed it to stay in the stock location so that our dry sump pump could fit on the side.

We machined two 1/2” manifold spacers to get the clearance over the alternator.

When we first got the engine it was still running a wet sump, but came with an old 2-stage Aviaid oil pump. We completed the dry sump setup by making our own pan and welding in -12 fittings for scavenging. This let us mount the engine pretty low in the chassis.

Re: Prerunner Buggy - Built NA EG33

With a pretty complete engine, we mounted it to the 5-speed Weddle S5 sequential transaxle and started to build the exhaust and induction. I know that the even-fire nature of a flat-6 and the evenly spaced 120* pulses lend themselves to two separate exhaust banks with 3-1 collectors, but for the packaging of this car an equal length, tuned 6-1 system was a better fit. I worked with some industry colleagues to calculate the best primary length and diameter, then I got to TIG welding all the stainless.

The intake already had the IRIS deleted from the previous forced induction setup so we left it that way. This engine isn’t going to spend much time at low RPM anyway. The air filters are twin Unique Metal Products centrifugal filters common among desert racecars and industrial equipment.

Just about all the AN plumbing and wiring is done now and we’ll be headed to the dyno soon. Engine management is from an old MoTec M48 and HEX6 ignition, Sakata Milspec harness.

Here is a complete list of the components in the build. To sum up, we wanted a low-stress and reliable flat-6 for this car hence going back to NA, big bore sleeves, and a little higher compression. We hope it makes good power and sounds mean.

Build sheet:

Darton Sleeves - 100mm bore
Flex plate cylinder hone and align bore by Danzio
CP Carillo forged pistons
Compression Ratio - 11.6:1
Cometic MLS head gaskets - .040”
ARP head studs
Delta Camshafts - 272 duration
Stock forged Crankshaft - refurbished by Marine Crankshaft
Crower H-beam connecting rods
ARP Rod bolts
ACL race bearings - mains and rods
CP Carillo wrist pins
CP Carillo pin bushings
CP Carillo piston rings
Wrist pin oil squirters
Ported cylinder heads - full valve job clean up skim cut by Paradise Motorsports
Top feed fuel rails and injectors
External LS1 ignition coils
Aviaid Dry Sump pump
Custom billet aluminum dry sump plate
Sakata Motorsports Milspec wiring harness
MoTec M48 ECU
MoTec IEX/HEX 6 ignition
KEP flywheel
KEP stage 3 pressure plate
KEP adaptor plate
KEP 6-puck clutch disc
NGK Platinum plugs
OE Subaru lifters and gaskets
Custom Stainless Exhaust
FAST 1 Bar MAP
Dual UMP filters
DeatschWerks 450cc injectors

Beautiful build. I can't wait to see and hear how it runs and what the numbers are.
I love the vinyl Baja job on the car too!

Re: Prerunner Buggy - Built NA EG33

I went with the delta cams also but putting solid bmw buckets in.
also I have one svx stock except tcu chip and running z32 maf with 550 yellow top injectors and ecu chip to match, runs great if you need more fuel give them a try.

I don’t expect I’ll need more fuel but thanks for the recommendation. How do you like the cams?
