CO detector with a relay?

Anyone know how to hook up a CO detector with a relay to shutdown a furnace? No luck on furnace forums or such. They do not even know what I'm talking about.

Re: CO detector with a relay?

It took some time, but I figured it out. Anyone needs a diagram, let me know.

Re: CO detector with a relay?

I have a coal furnace. This can work with any appliance.

Wow, I didn't know they still existed. I guess when you live in the land of coal mines it makes sense.
I heat with a wood stove and a couple of electric baseboards in the basement.

Re: CO detector with a relay?

Yeah, these new furnaces and stoves are very clean with automatic feeds and hoppers. They also work with a controllable thermostat that adjusts the feed, and fire rate. No need to shovel in coal or shake the grate. Load the hopper with buckets of coal, empty the ash tray and the stove does the rest. Of course you need to be doing this every day or so, but the savings is worth it. I save over $1500 over propane fuel.

Re: CO detector with a relay?

I just installed a 98% gas efficient boiler. Has no chimney just 2 PVC pipes on for outside air in and one for condensation out through the outside wall ( like a dryer vent.) has outside sensor so it only heats water hot enough to warm house. Holds only 2 puts of water.

Re: CO detector with a relay?

So this is a ventless system? I believe they have either a CO sensor or an Oxygen sensor built in as a saftey feature. Wow, 98% efficient is great!

Re: CO detector with a relay?

Here is the basic: A 120v BRK interconnectable CO detector with a BRK relay (RM4) rated at 15A, 1/3 HP triggering a NO or NC contact to an outlet, depending what you are trying to do. You can also use Kiddie brand, but their relay contacts are rated at 10A.
This is an option: You can use both contacts (NO/NC) connected to an outlet, one will open while the other closes. You will have to break the hot side tab on the outlet that connectes them together so they can work independantly. This can deactivate the stove while activating another item (an exhaust fan, garage door, lights).
