14 second Naturally Aspirated SVX done

This is what was just sent to me in my email to be added to the Subaru 1/4 Mile Registry.

"1994 fwd svx 9.67 at 74mph 1/8mi 14.89 at 93.56mph 1/4mi 2,29 60ft.this is all motor pulley, ram air .k/n filter ,short belt crank and alt only turns and 205/40/16 tires to get that much needed lower gear i race at kinston drag strip in n.cmy next step is to run low 13 sec. on 205/40/17 street tires,i have been blessed with a strong engine ,i will try a 150 shot wet after i do some tranny work better safe than sorry svx 4ever"

The guy didn't state his full name so I requested it from him as well as the date this run was made.
Have ANY of you heard anything about this 'glorious' 1/4 mile run? I'm reluctant to add it and don't want to seem like an ***hole. With just those mods, he's claiming to have gone faster than a turbocharged SVX. I don't want to be quick to call B.S. and am asking what do you guys think?

Here is his email if you question the validity of his 1/4 mile time.
JAMESSVX@aol.com If you all are familiar with this time and the run is real (???????????) than I'll add it. It doesn't add up at all though when I look at it.

Sounds like BS. I only say this because of his grammatical errors- he sounds (types) like a moron. I don't see why SVXs aren't faster though, they're certainly VERY fast on the freeway. :|

a fwd is lighter im shure no rear difrential and all they will run quiker same things as a eclipse FWD gst runing 15.1 stock to a eclipse GSX AWD runing 15.3 with the exact same engines ones lighter. same concept with the svx

the times seem to be ligit 93.5 is a right mph for that run

but i never see a svx runing 13s off juice only.. i can see the tranny blowing to a million pieces

my personal opinion i think its true

A 94 FWD is 206 lbs lighter than AWD according to NADA guide.

According to R&T Guide, a 92 AWD does a 15.4 @ 92.5 so it doesn't seem impossible. Adding ram air (I guess it depends on how it's done), getting rid of accesories and keeping only a few gallons in the tank would all help. The 50/40 series tires are negligible I think, less than an inch difference in diameter but they all contribute some. Perhaps ithe driver is less than 100 lbs?

Perhaps, they pulled some interior stuff out and took out the A/C gear.

Just my $.02

I have to jump in on this one. I owned both FWD and AWD SVXes. FWD behaves like a whole new animal. AWD will kick FWD SVX ass of the line if you slam on the gas. I have done that. FWD is a little slow to take off. But I have gone faster after the car starts to move on the FWD. And trust me, AWD SVX is a lot more fun to drive.

Well, I was just really skeptical. I added it to Subaru 1/4 Mile Registry.

It's just that by association, looking at all the other SVXs (except the turbo) that I have at the site, they are within 1mph of each other. All of them are trapping at 85-86mph speeds. This car is trapping at 7mph more than the next N/A SVX which is a significant amount of N/A power that have been gained on this car.

Using this site:
http://www.dsm.org/tools/calchp.htm

I decided to play with some numbers. I used 3700lbs as weight just to have a weight in there. I used 16.0@85mph as the 1/4 mile time since that seems to be the average at the Registry.

16.0@85mph =
Using the ET method, I come up with 179 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 177 horsepower

So I said hey, what if we add a 50hp shot of nitrous to this equation. Seems he would be approx 227-229hp right? I used James's 1/4 mile time and trap speed info (14.89 at 93.56mph) to see where it would land. Here was the result:
Using the ET method, I come up with 222 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 236 horsepower

Take those two numbers, add them together and divide by 2 to get the average hp and voila.......229hp. So he has approximately 50hp extra that he's making.

I conclude that this is a nitrous run and he's going for a bigger hp shot in the future. I assumed he was N/A since he said, "All motor" in his original email to me. Would you agree? Maybe he forgot to add this since he's going for a bigger hp shot in the future.

Who is running a TURBO SVX? As far as I know there are no super/or/turbo charger kits for the SVX and they did not make any with turbo as stock.

Last time I checked, that was not in production. Also, that is a modded kit. It was originally for the WRX. And I personally do not think that kit would be of much help. I think a 75 shot of Nitrus might be a hell of a lot faster.

I agree. Just answering the question. If you threw enough R&D $$ at it with an intercooler and pistons.... Boone (likes turbos)

Cdigerlando and either KevinL or Kastle have turbos. A search here will find a number of posts on turbos and there are also quite a few pictures in the lockers of the installation.

this guy is running 1/4 miles with only crank and alternator!!! ok, who needs p/s for the 1/4 mile? i don't, so the engine as that less load to work. but who runs 1/4 miles with no water pump? that is ridicules... and tire size, o.e diameter is 24.865 inchs and his 205-40r16 have 22.430 inchs in dia. I admit it will get you off the line faster but you are actually driving 10%greater distance than the actual 1/4 mile. And finally, I also have the k&n,ram air , add dual exhaust , removed head light(for ram air),110 octane gas(15 litres on empty tank),no spare and back seat, ecu and resistor mod, 50/50 lockup, no a/c belt and still can't manage to hit 15.2. I'm triing all the tricks in the book has you can see!! now installing 5 spd tranny.

so either this guy if full of b.s or he mispelled WRX. this is my opinion...

I just wanted to add that this guy (Walter James) sent me email late last night. He stated that his 1/4 mile time is not with nitrous but it's N/A (Naturally Aspirated).
