My free truck

So I got my free truck a couple of years ago from my parents in the hopes of fixing it up. I have been working off and on it in that time and so far have about $125 invested (carb, hoses, primer, etc.) It has the big six with auto. If I can ever get a job I would like a full resto but in the time being it getting the rattle can job and some lightning wheels when I find a set. I drove this truck in high school and has been in the family for 20 yrs. Minimal rust(cab corners and wheel wells) solid frame but has hail damage Going to get my parts from LMC truck

Re: My free truck

Found some rattle can Rustoleum that matches the factory color dead on. This is what I did this afternoon, yeah I know still have to fix the hole but with enamel you can come back and fix this The only bad thing with enamel is the endless water sanding and buffing to get it to shine. Enough of it will cover anything Going to spend a afternoon with my friend who does upholstery and do the front seat. I keep pics of the progress as Im expecting to spend less than $300 to get it looking decent....for a Ford

Re: My free truck (update)

So here is some updates on my truck. Still have the hood, roof, bed and drivers door (which is the worst) to finish. $40 of rustoleum, sandpaper, rubbing compund and wax should make it shine better along with the endless water sanding. Yes Im painting this thing in my backyard

Re: My free truck

Funny thing if Ford had put a decent carb on the 300-6 it would run forever. I would like to eventually put a built 351w since its a pretty easy swap. So far I have about $175 in it now. These era 80-86 ford trucks are getting popular now especially anything in a short wheel base but most were used, abused and rusted out, my truck has very little rust and is complete. I would like to get it looking as good as this one.

Why on earth anyone would want a short wheel base truck is beyond me! Go out an buy yourself a BaHa and enjoy the decent gas mileage, extra 2 seats and same minimally useful bed.

When your ready to trade up, you can give me the $4500 for my 96 F-250 the gov't wants to give me for it.

You're right about that 4.9 v-6 as opposed to my 4.9 v-8 in that it will run forever so long as you can keep fuel going to that far cylinder!

Didn't they have a Carter YF on them? That is the same thing that is on my Gremlin, great little carburetor. The design has been around since the 50s, the only thing that really changed between the years is the choke setup.

Dont know if its a Carter but what I got from the junkyard ($50) has been working good. The power valve on these go out and flood the bowl which runs rich. Im building this thing on the cheap (under $500) to get a decent looking and running truck...so far $125 into it.

Re: My free truck

The Carter YF doesn't have a power valve, so I guess you don't have one of those, is it a 1 barrel?
