Interior Temparature Sensor

Mine is reading minus 13 degrees at all times!! I bought a new sensor, but am told the enitre dash needs to be removed in order to replace it. Cost aside, this seems like invasive surgery for a small part that may ruin the integrity of my car! Has anyone sucessfully replaced this part without tearing out the dash - i.e. through the console or somehow through the top of the dash itself? My SVX is a 1992...

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Marie

Re: Interior Temparature Sensor

This is not so. The ambient temp sensor is in the left side of the HVAC control unit, and easily removed without dismantling the dash. You just remove the visor (above speedo/tach), Remove the center grill, then the control unit screws, the duct attached, the harness connector, then the control unit itself.
The in-vehicle sensor is located in the left(driver) side of the unit. It's actually in the airflow from the "aspirator duct", which pulls air from the interior through the little vent to the left of the temp display/adjustment switch.

Cool Re: Interior Temparature Sensor

Hey - I thought that the ambient sensor also had a dianostic mode so that you could set/check offset temperatures (passenger side temperature could be different to drivers side etc) - you might find that someone has played around with it & forced it to the extreme limit.

Someone over there must have the information available regarding setting up default temperature sensor (or I will check when I get back home in approx 8 hours time).

Lets not get this guy to rip apart the inside if there is another way to check remotely.
