Cute
Hello
Cute very cute. I am only saying that I have noticed in the past year or two that the model has bottomed out and when at the bottom one can only go up. I have also seen clean low mile examples begin to easily sell for the 10K to 12K range. I should know as I have missed a few thinking that it would not sell and waited only to lose the car to another buyer. Forget the asking price, I am referring to the selling prices. This is regardless or which year it is. I have no doubt that anyone who has a clean documented one or two owner car with 60K miles or less that they wouldn't be able to sell it for the 10K to 12K I mentioned. As well, seeing members buy theirs, spend a few thousand to make theirs run right and then list it for sale at a fraction of what the car and repairs cost them is upsetting. I am only saying that trends show low mile cars up there these days and usually the other follow. I think the lower priced cars that have been sorted out should be able to fetch 4500 to 6000 depending on condition. Again I mean mechanically sorted out cars, the cosmetics would dictate the rest of the value After all considering the car itself and few thousands in repairs you can easily arrive at those numbers in total cost. I know that in practicality one does not expect to get back the money put into a car but that applies more to a modified car rather than a car maintained. In theory, your sale price should be at least what your costs were. Not that anyone should be selling theirs in the first place. Max |

I think if I were to hypothetically sell my SVX after the 5 speed and bodywork were completed by the end of this year I would ask for 12-15k even with the mileage its at.

Hey Anthony, it's great to see that you may be(I only say this because we obviously can't confirm it) selling an at least 11 year old car for close to what they sold for off the showroom floor. I'm not trying to put you down or anything but unless there's less than 20k on the odometer, the buyer must be really stupid.
"ISVXRVTTLA Increase SVX Retail Value Through Tricks and Lies Association " And that acronym, I myself, and I'm sure most of the people on here wouldn't go by when thinking about selling their SVX to other SVX owners. I just want more info on these SVXii that you've sold for this ridiculous amount.

Pricing thoughts
First of all, I agree with Earl and others who feel that the price on these cars has bottomed out. I feel I was lucky to get mine for a decent price, even though I find now that I have to put 2/3 of that again into it to get it running right.
When the SVXs were new, I recognized them for what they were, a styling and technological coup, that people who were blinded by the brand name (=cheap car) couldn't see. My "collection" consists of two more cars that have the same problem. They are interesting cars, well styled, and super enjoyable to drive, but have never caught the mainstream interest. On the other hand, I don't see them spread across the roadside or speared on guardrails by idiot owners (having the money to afford a Ferrari does not mean you have the intelligence or skill to drive one) when I visit WreckedExotics.com. In the late '30s and early '40s, owners of Cords felt the same way. They had a ravishingly beautiful car that was a real pain to maintain and repair. So they sold them cheap. I have a friend at the Museum who as a teenager had four Cords. He wishes he had even one of them today, when prices are into the mid six figures. But in 1950, you almost couldn't give them away. So if we keep them, maintain them, restore what needs to be restored, and keep others from being destroyed, they have the potential to become grand collecter cars, and possibly, although I'll probably not live long enough to see it, become recognized classics. Right now, however, the collector car fraternity looks down their collective noses at us, as they do at the Acura NSX, the Alfa Romeo GTV6 and other cars that have bottomed out and are slowly, slowly, climbing to their place in the sun. Sorry I got so wordy, Paul

True...
Unfortunately, what everyone is said is true. I purchased my SVX for $1100 with a bad transmission. All in all it will cost about $2500. Great for me bad for the market. I think if we sell the cars for their true worth, you will see increased value.

:)
Like I have visioned. 20 years into the future. Digital newspaper ads, heading "SVX for sale" contact Earl (owns all of them and sets the price)....
I just called two Subaru dealers in the Montreal, Canada area to ask for an used SVX. Criteria I mentioned was preferably a 97, LSi Trim, and low miles under 60k miles or 45k KMs. They said they have them come in once in a while as trades and examples meeting those criteria still sell for 14K to 18K depending on condition of body/interior and mechanics plus # of owners/history. As well that they don't usually last long and do sell if in excellent condition. One dealer advise me that I will be 2nd on the list as they already have another client wanting the same car and with the same criteria. I know that they are more rare here and assume that this would be part of the reason for the high prices but still shows some value more than just another used car. Max |

I think I paid to much for mine(8k) 100,000miles on it.However based on the receipts that came with it for new paint, brakes, timing belt etc, plus the fact that the interior is mint, I think(feel) I got a car worth the money. All of the work has been done in the last 2000 miles and I haven't had to put a dime into it since I've had it and it drives flawlessly.I'm satisfied and I guess that's what matters. My 2 cents worth

I just bought mine and paid more than that. I should be getting it end of Feb. It too "should" need nothing but it does have 45000 original miles. Max |
