Shipping containers dont really workout cost effective for cars,
You are paying for cubic space of the whole container and a car only really fills half of the volume so your actually paying to ship air.

ENSTEELE HAS A JDM SVX ON PAGE 606! While we're on the subject, I read somewhere ONCE that the JDM models have a 45/65 torque split, vs the 90/10. Now, I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else, and I can't even find the page I originally saw it on, but I haven't found any proof saying otherwise either...

Man, y'all gotta be JDM Tyte to know that shiz. AKA, jp onry prz kthx
(btw, your math is off; it's 35/65. 45/65 would be 110% torque) Here you go, if you're interested. http://www.subarumembers.com/newtech/vtd/vtd_c01.htm Not fair that the Japanese had that in 1992 (1991 really) and we didn't get it until 2001 with the WRX here in the USA... |

US have 90F/10R split?
What is the max transfer to the rear wheels & how is it determind? So your basically driving front wheel drive all the time unless you lose grip?

So what dictates that? Is it a different viscous set up, or is it electronic?

The WRX auto has a 45/55 split, so I am guessing that is what the older transmissions have.
I would be very interested to see how the SVX handles with it, as my SVX has severe understeer in steadystate cornering off throttle, while very very balanced while on throttle. So if its actualy holding the front and rear wheelspeeds connected even off throttle, it might fix that push issue all on its own. |

Yeah I'd definately like to know what It would take to get that kind of torque split.
Back in the day we had a GL Wagon (EA82) that had the engine out of a Turbo RX and the AWD from a XT. When you locked that rear diff that thing really knew how to get side ways.

From the Japanese site (btw it is 35/65, not 45/55), VTD is like the ass-backwards version of the American cars. Where we have a naturally 90/10 split which transitions to the rear if need be (via an electronically controlled cluch pack)... the VTD system is rigged to constantly send power to the rear instead. There's a limited-slip differential which decides whether more power should go to the front or not. It's totally different... and I wish I had it in my SVX. We totally got shafted.
Here's the tech explanation. http://www.subarumembers.com/newtech/vtd/vtd_c02.htm |

I was curious couldn't you swap the JDM drivetrain into a US model and get the same 35/65 torque split or is it more complicated than that?

Hmm, if the US models have a electronic center diff, it should be possible to override it so you can at least have 50/50 whenever you want. That'd be enough to pull off what I wanna do.

However, the gearing isn't that far off from ours (we have a 3.54 final, they have 3.70), so I can't imagine that these 4EATs were immune to the problems ours faced. As such, sure, it'd be a nice automatic replacement, but... it'd still have the same issues as the transmissions here. Which is why it'd be better to swap in a later transmission from here. Cheaper, too. |

If USDM imprezas have VTD it would probably be easier to get the parts locally than importing them from Japan. The JDM cars are very neutral in their handling. They just keep on gripping. You have to drive like a nutter to make them understeer or oversteer.

Truth be hold, automatic aside, this SVX has to be one of the best cars I've ever driven. I'd like to get my hands on a JDM just to feel the difference.
