Parking Brake Adjustment
I changed out my rear rotors a few weeks ago with the slotted and drilled ones. Well a few days ago I started having symptoms that could be related to the parking brake rubbing etc... not sure. When I turn the wheel at 20 mph or under I feel and hear a bumping like I have something on my tire. Also I can physically feel like something is holding the car back at takeoff. The transmission specialist at the dealer drove it and thought it might be the differential starting to go. They replaced the front and rear differential and the transmission fluid as well as the brake fluid and the bumping almost went away there but came back the next day. Could a rubbing parking brake cause these symptoms? Could someone give me a brief summary on how to correctly set my parking brake clearance if possible. Thanks.

Parking Brakes drag, they don't bump. I'd just drive your car down the road and then come to a stop without using the brake and seeing how warm the rear rotors are. If they're warm, you might have dragging e-brake. I know it makes the car feel like it's being held back. It's a cable driven brake, so it just needs to be loosened a little if need be.

The manual sez the brake handle travel should be 6 or 7 notches. Take the console off to access the adjustment double nut bolt. Did you install new shoes in the rear rotors?

Parking Brake
Thanks Dromano. No I didn't replace the shoes just some racing concept rotors. I 'm hearing some rattling going around corners at low speeds now. I don't have a clue. I'll check the parking brake travel now and go from there. I hope this isn't tranny related or I'm selling it fast. Thanks.

The parking/emergency brake is brake shoes in the rear rotors. If you didn't put shoes in the rotors you have major issues unless the rotors had shoes installed. You might want to check and see if you have shoes in those rear rotors

parking brake
Yeah I had my Subaru mechanic put the rear rotors on at his house so I know there is shoes and pads there. It was ok for more than a week until these symptoms came up. I just adjusted the parking brake. Tightened it up a few clicks and test drove it and nothing changed. I did an s pattern at low speed and could feel the tires like slipping in and out of AWD. That's my interpretation. I'm going to post another thread for the masses on this. Thanks for the help.

With the windows down, can you hear a hissing while you start driving? (not while braking)

Parking Brake
Hi thanks for the reply. No I'm not hearing anything but a shaking and thumping sound when turning at lower speeds. My torque converter could be locking up but I will take it to professionals asap(tuesday). Thanks again.

It's strange how you keep mentioning AWD but have not checked to see if it's binding (that I saw).
Does it do the same thing with the FWD fuse in place?
