A real remote trunk release

I was fixing up the lower trunk trim piece and thought I'd take the opportunity to snap a few shots of the remote trunk release solenoid. I installed this 8 or 9 years ago when I replaced the OEM alarm with one that had more channels and sensors. The solenoid is attached to the right rear trunk cover support with a couple of pieces of metal strips. Not the prettiest mount, but it was what I had on hand and I didn't feel like drilling any unnecessary holes for a better mount. The pull cable is attached to the same lever as the factory remote release cable. It's handy to be able to open the trunk without having to open the driver's door too.

Ok, maybe I need to rephrase this. What brand of remote is it? I thought you may have taken it out of another car.

It's an Alpine SEC-8052 security system with proximity sensing, paging and 3 remote controlled outputs. I've got it wired so I can release the trunk, remote start, mute the stereo, and disable the shock sensor for those really stormy nights. The trunk release solenoid is just a generic model made by DEI.

Kuoh,

What wire did you use to power the solenoid? Same one for the alarm control unit?

I had already ran heavy gauge wire to the trunk for the amps, so I tapped power from there. If you just have stock trunk wiring, then you could probably pull power from the brake light tester or the power antenna.

Are either/both of those wires hot when the car is turned off?

Thumbs up

Hey, I have the same on my SVX, remove that bracket and simply shove the solenoid through the bracket on the body and put a pipe clamp on the end of it. It works great! just the bare solenoid, it'll clean up what u got goin' on there...

What did you use to power the solenoid?
