Vents on doors

How do I get the vents on the door to work? I don't know which controls make the air circulate to the vents, I've tried them all with no luck.

Mode door actuator. Someone posted a couple of weeks ago that you can see the linkage on the passenger side.

Wait a second... Do you mean the controls? That would be defrost, right?

Yes the defrost. Believe it or not I forgot how to work it. My SVX has been sitting for almost two years I finally got it back on the road the other day and it was raining and I couldn't figure out how to make the air circulate to the vents in the door. Could it be possible that the mechanism is stuck?

It could. Air only flows to the door vents when the climate control is set to defrost. There is nothing else you need to do or have forgotten.

I actually had to think about it Earl. I wasn't sure. I can't remember ever using the defrost button.

Is there a difference to the European model?

In mine warm air flows to the door vents not only on defrost but also when the climate control is on econ or auto and it is heating.

I don't know. I'm going to check tomorrow. Since my windows never steam up here in the desert, I've never paid any attention to them myself.

I think when you first start the car in the cold using "Econ" or "Auto" it puts the defrost on for a short while assuming the windows are obstructed.

I was gonna guess that when the Auto or Econ modes are heating the car, it splits the flow something like 60% foot-well, 40% defroster. I know it certainly doesn't blow heat out the main vents.

...which is one of the only things I don't like about the SVX, you can't override the vent control like you can override the fan speed. Auto is good 99% of the time, but sometimes my hands are cold and I'd like to blow hot air out the main vents on 'em!

I agree I thought something (else) was wrong with my car
