SVX longevity
I’m curious as to what I might expect for longevity for my SVX (a ‘92 with 140,000 miles - replaced rear wheel bearings @ 118K, rebuilt transmission @ about 100K). If enough people post the year of their SVX, the number of miles on it and a list of the major repairs required (and when) I’ll attempt to summarize the data and post the results. Anyone interested?

92 liquid silver.
105,000 miles body is scratchified and door dinged regular oil changes with pure synthetic replaced air and oil filters regularly ( K&N both) timing belt changed at intervals ORIGINAL tranny, with aftermarket cooler and external filter STILL GETS ALL FOUR LOOSE ON HAIRPINS! yup, with a lotta bit of TLC and a pocketbook to match, an SVX can live FOREVER! mine will! |

My worst fear is mine sits to long and that will cause me problems , but other then brakes and trans gasket replaced runs like new! So far Oh yeah I did the bearings ,It wasn't needed yet, but it was in for some other minor work and I'm glad I did it . Car drives like new again ( the other work was the leaking tranny gasket and I had new drilled and slotted rotors put on so I told them to do the bearings ! It was not because I was having a problem , Better safe then sorry) YES I did the pads too

I think the biggest factor affecting the lifespan of the SVX is the contents of the owner's wallet.
My car came with the warranty service booklet showing dated and stamped entries by the dealership at recommended intervals up through 90,000+ miles. I don't think the work I've done (from 104,000) is unreasonable given the mileage and vintage, and fully expect it should soldier-on to 200,000 miles and beyond. dcb |

92 LS-L w/~103k
Head gasket at 60k (previous owner) Wheel bearings at 75k (previous owner) Front CVs at 78k (left one exploded) Radiator fan at 80k (nut fell off, wore a hole through the fan) Tranny rebuilt at 82k (lost 1st + 2nd gear) Radiator at 85k (I think it was due to an accident with a deer) Brake calipers/rotors at 90k (piston seals developed holes) Water pump at 90k (started making a strange squeaking sound) All 4 struts at 95k (only the right rear *needed* replacement) Repainted at 102k (clear coat was starting to peel on the pass door, hood and front bumper covered in rock chips) That's the stuff that "broke" but there's the normal maintenance like timing belt, brake pads, etc. My AC compressor is starting to squeak a little, so that will probably need to be changed soon too.

I've upgraded the tranny and suspension (as you are well aware of) so I think I have all the major issues taken care of. All I need to do is find the "stealth mode" switch so people will stop running into it.

I picked it up at 110000kms (68000 miles), has now done 120000kms (75000 miles). Work done so far: power steering high pressure hose burst both front struts replaced rear bearings replaced radiator top tank cracked and replaced and the seals on the power steering rack are being replaced next week. All done over the last 8 months, but it had been sitting in an import warehouse for the previous 2 years and was in fairly poor condition when I bought it. |

I have 225K (and climbing) on my daily driver. My tranny stories are well chronicled on this and the yahoo forums (which I frequented prior to this site opening). Long story, but, it wasn't the trans' fault in my case. I've had one wheel bearing replaced (R/R) and I think my L/R is beginning to whine a little. [Whispering while knocking wood] No other major repairs.
