London Parking

It's a long time since I drove into central London, but I do remember how bad it could be.
But in these days of congestion control what's my chances of driving into the centre of London (from the M23) and finding parking to do a few hours sightseeing. And what would be the best route to take. It would be on a weekday morning, probably getting to the M25 at around 11:00am.
I've thought of parking on the outskirts and to take tube/bus but with 5 adults and 2 kids, I'm not sure I want to do that.
So help me out guys

Collin, how the heck have you been? Long time, no see. Reading's right 'round the corner -- don't guess you'll be there if you're looking for a parking spot in Central London right now. Best to the Missus.

Not quite, Joe.
We're still in Wisconsin trying to survive the winter. I don't want to complain too much because compared to the NE, we've had it pretty light this year.
We leave for England on the 18th till the 27th. We're staying in Delamere Forest near Chester, but we're taking a couple of days to visit family in Brighton, so I thought it would be a good idea to take the yung'ns sight seeing for a few hours on the way back.
I'm now thinking it probably is not that good of an idea, especially with time being such a premium.
I'm hoping that one of my trips back will one day coincide with a UK meet. That would be cool
See ya.

Hey, we've been pretty damn good
We're not in London yet (see post to Joe) but will be soon
I thought about Reading, but I have to be in New York the week after and after the England trip, my R&R budget will be just about gone.
I'm hoping that a fall meet will materialize somewhere.

Thumbs up Go for it!

Colin,

My best drinking buddy Mike, who's from Ealing [imagine having an Englishman as best buddy! ], says you would have no trouble getting in to London centre and coming in via the M23 as you suggest. Ignore the congestion thing, and drive on in, there are loads of multistory car parks with space. You could in theory drive practically up to Westminster with no trouble. There is a multistory very near the London Eye, and that's worth a visit, I've been there.

He will check up his A-Z and offer me a couple of streets near car parks as suggestions by email tomorrow. Will pass on to you whatever he sends me. Also, at 11 AM you will miss all the rush hour, driving should be OK.

Joe

PS I call to Chester every time I am driving for Holyhead. Lovely town, really nice place.

Would be nice to see you. This might be cutting it a little fine for you, but if you can make it, you would be very welcome.

Parking directions.

Hi Colin

Just got this from Mike. Hope I am in time before you travel.

There is a large underground car park near Park Lane, close to Mayfair, near enough to see whatever you like.

Coming in southside, you will be coming in via the A23. Continue on the A23 till you get to the Oval. At the Oval, turn left onto the A202. Stay on it till you get to Victoria, there will be signs for Hyde Park Corner. Drive onto Park Lane, car park should be signposted.

Hope this helps

Joe

Thanks, Joe.
I did get the info in time, but it was 2pm before we left Brighton so things didn't go exactly to plan.
Instead of the London thing we did Windsor since it was more on the way back north.
Thanks for everything anyway.
Everyone had a great time, and I for one can't wait for the next visit.
