Wheel Bearings - frozen rusted HELP!

Dropped of my 92 SVX yesterday and they told me that the bolts are rusted, they will have to torch them off. This automatically adds $190 to the work not including if they damage the lateral link which will then also need to be replaced.

Has anyone else had this problem? Recommendations.

Does anyone know where I can get these parts so I am not paying premium prices from subaru for them?

Any help is great appreciated!!!!

I am checking now. Most other places charge alot more for the labor and that is why I am using this dealership.

I had it happen to me. They had to use an air hammer to get mine out. Only one side though and added an extra $100. $25 for a bolt and $75 for another hour of labor.

Mine was the lateral link bolt. I first tried to do the repair myself. I got to the frozen bolt and bent a 12 foot extension on a 1/2" breaker bar trying to get the thing off.

I doubt they are messing with you. Are they doing both sides? Trust me, it is worth having them remove the bolts. Frozen bolts, esp. in that area are a PITA.

It's just the right rear wheel (Thank GOD!)

I am having them do the work. It's going to cost $142 for the additional parts - Bushing, bolt, washer and something else. One additional hour of labor ($55.00)

So, I am looking at $550 at the end of this nightmare.

hehehe, GOD knows what they are doing in there !!!!
Funny I wanna go to the States, open a shop.. each customer coming to have an oil change, I wanna make his day miserable by claiming that his car needs a fuel filter, spark plugs, battery, tranny oil change, timing belt, injectors, air filter, ......., body work, paintjob. for a car costing $2000 I wanna f*ck h!m with another $2000 for repairs !!! I would be rich in a couple of months !!

If they burn it out, they will definitely need to replace the bushing. What bolt is it? Lateral link? You can check subaruparts.com for costs on the parts. Be careful though. Sometimes shops will not stand behind their work if a customer brings in the parts. Even OE parts. $55 is a great rate for dealership work.

I think you are going to have to bite the bullet on this one.

Significant Technical Input
It's not uncommon for those bolts to rust on cars in the salt belt. In my experience Hondas are the worst, their rear suspension bolts are almost always rusted solid into the bushing sleeves. Makes for a major PITA for the person doing the work.
