Guage Installation questions
Okay, I did a search of the site and didn't come up with any concrete answers to the following questions:
1. Given the "coil per cylinder" set up with the SVX's engine, how do you hook a tachometer up (yes, I know we already have one, but it doesn't have a shift light you can set to a predetermined rpm...)? 2. Is there any place on the block that is already threaded to accept an electrical sender for a water temperature guage? 3. Is there any place on the block that is already threaded to accept a fitting for a manual oil pressure fitting (or an electrical sender)? Thanks in advance for everyone's help on this. -Bill

to answer#1 there SHOULD be a pick up from the distributor, I know there isn't one, but the standard term may be "tach" or "trig" or "trigger" somewhere near the ignition. There may even be a connection in one of the fuse boxes for a pulse for a tach. This will require a manual for the vehicle which I do not have. try calling a suby dealer, he may be able to tell you without charging you $$$.

Bill,
Can't say as I've looked when I had my Alternator off, but the newer 4-cyl models have the oil pressure sensor tapped into the top of the block below the Alt. I think the WRX guys put in a "T" for the pressure sending unit. I would assume the same (putting in a "T") for the coolant sensor. the thread below says pin 16 of the 16 pin connector at the ECU has the tach signal. http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...threadid=16843 |

why not just install a shift light instead of a tacky tack?

well, if we're gonna vote on alternatives to what was asked I vote for the GTech Pro - which has shift lights as a part of their logic.

shift light -- yep, you're right -- guess I've been figuring that the shift light depended on the tach's electronics to set the shift point at which it lights up .
