clunk on take off

so a month ago my car started a noticeable clunk when taking off. It feels like the tranny is not catching as soon as you give it gas. It shifts fine for the most part. Also every once in a while it almost has a chugging motion in third, but no change in rpms. To top it off, I went to rotate my tires just now and when jacked up in park the front tires keep turning.

Any ideas!

clunk

The clunk you hear or feel could be the carrier bearing and or mount in the 2 piece drive shaft "propellar shaft," unit. Also if you can raise and support vehicle, check tranny crossmember the rubber mounts on it, the engine mounts and rear differential mounts. As for your wheel free spin in P, all I can say is when my SVX is up off the ground it does it too.

Do your cars hold on an incline with the selector in PARK?

Yeah, that is the part I don't get.

I don't think I have had it in the air with the engine running since I got the Reman installed this past winter. So, I'm not sure if it was a symptom of a bad trans, or if it just another "Freaky" SVX thing...

When you got it off the ground do the tires rotate in the same direction when turned by hand? If not, and they shouldn't, that explains how it holds on a hill.

Right. Because the wheels are on a differential, you'll be able to rotate one at a time, but both of them won't turn in the same direction.

Sometimes it holds on an incline other times it rolls back. Just like the clunk, it is a sometimes thing. I take off at one light nothing, I take off at the next and it clunks. I have always eased into motion with the car never ever do I launch it. Oh also it takes longer to catch when I shift into drive or reverse. I heard someting about that once. Its like its thinking or something.
