Clutch replacement
I just want to make sure i can leave the clutch lines and everything attached but the axles and slide the tranny back like 4 inches and be able to replace the clutch on the wrx tranny. Is this a feasible task? ALso i plan on getting the stage 3 clutch from mastro subaru with future plans for the no2 by longass does this seem like a decent clutch with my 11lb flywheel? Thanks in advance for any and all help...

Stuck...
Well i got everything undone and decided it would be better just to pull the whole thing out, but i can't get the thing to come totally apart. I have it all the way to the end of the studs on the bottom of the tranny but it won't come off all the way. Im quitting for tonight and going to start again tomorrow when i have another set of hands to help me, its just to hard by myself... Still open to any and all suggestions...

Urgent Help Needed
Please if anyone would know why the **** the tranny won't come undone from the back of the engine please enlighten me. I can not figure it out for the life of me..I have the tranny all the way to the end of the studs but its acting like its stuck on something now????
Does anyone know if the bar that changes gears has to be out or in a certain position..( the thing the slave cylinder pushes into).. The engine will crank and spin the flywheel, but it wont come off...I have to get this done within the next 2 days or im in really deep....Any and all help is greatly appreciated as always... |

Since its a pull-style clutch, doesn't the pressure plate come off the the tranny? Did you remove the pressure plate bolts?
BTW, for the new clutch, give careful thought to using anything but an organic disk (usu a "stage 3" clutch has something other than an organic disk). Pucks can hold power, but they often have a engaged/disengaged characteristic with nothing in between.

I dont see any bolts that are accessible with the tranny still attached to the engine though..I thought maybe it was like the flexplate of the auto but i cant seem to find any bolts. I found this on nasioc
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/arch.../t-376060.html However i have the plug out and a allen wrench into the hole, i just can't get the lever to release. Does this sound like they mean put the bolt in there then pull the bolt out with the pin, or put the bolt in there and then the lever should just come right out??? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated... Last edited by want-a-fast-svx; 08-16-2004 at 09:23 AM. |

Wish I had some good info for you, but I haven't ever messed with a pull style clutch assembly

You've got the right idea with removing the lever. I haven't done it myself though. I can call my mechanic in a few hours. He'll know exactly what needs to be done.

Cross brace?
Could it be hanging up on the tubular cross brace that goes fron the drivers side to the passenger side, just below and behind the axles? It's only two bolts to remove it, and the nuts are affixed to the bar. Tom

The tranny locks into place. There is a piece that will almost always get damaged/replaced when separating the tranny from the engine.
I'll lookup the name/part but I think it's a snap ring of some sort.

For future reference for anyone with the wrx tranny there is a plug that has a allen head to remove it and then inside the opening is a cylinder sleeve that has a hole in it with threads.. \if you thread a bolt into the sleeve and then wiggle the bolt out.\ after this is out the tranny comes off much easier and actually is able to be removed. Just for future reference, unfortunately i'm now looking a the ra gearset b/c mine is shot i guess...\it wont go into 1,2,4,5 so i guess ill replace the gears, its possible its the synchros but i wont know till the subaru dealer pops the case open. I wanted to do it but didnt know if i should mess with something complicated like that...

Drivers side...about 2in. to the right of the bottom of the starter and 2-3in below the top/middle of the tranny...The plug itself is equivelant to a 50c piece..

Thanks, I will remember that for when the time comes to change the clutch.
