Don't tell me that happened on the way to go get your new Integra... I couldn't tell from your "New Car" post if you were planning on trading the SVX or not.

Been there, done that. Lots of expletives! I feel for you. How did this happen? There is no way it's totalled just from that. It could be a good excuse though to get a new CF hood and some of Dayle's new "hooked up dawg" fiberglass fenders with scoops. Insurance money should more than cover the cost.

Johnny (only way to stop the pain is to look on the bright side)

Alright, so now that I have a few minutes, I can tell all you guys what happened! I was parked in the barracks parking lot, facing grass, on the far row. I was one spot away from being in that corner of the lot, I dont know if that makes any sense...but bear in mind I was facing the grass. So this woman, who was on base doing a/c or heating work at the all hands club, was driving on the grass. I dont know why but she was. It was a 2000 Ford Expedition. Basically she backed right up into my car, messing up the fender and the hood as you can see. After taking the bra off, there's another big dent from where her bumper rode up onto it. I know I'm getting a new car and all but damn, this really put a kink in the plans!

She claimed she didn't see me, which is kind of ridiculous if you ask me, I was the only one in that row, and my car kinda stands out. It's a good thing she went to base security to find out who's car it was though, because they wouldnt let her leave the base until I arrived to see the damage and her. I got all her info, and I guess it was a company truck, so her employer is who I'll be dealing with.

I gave him a call today, and he was like well get an estimate and I'll see if I can just cut you a check instead of getting insurance invloved and all that. The thing is I'm not from around here, and my power steering is messed up so I dont want to be driving all over god's creation. How much do you guys think it'll cost? Do you honestly think it may be totaled?

if you can buy the parts yourself, and have a body shop put them on and paint them It might not be totaled. But if you get an estimate from a body shop they will probobly say $1500 at least.

Maybe more?

Ask around for a recommendation to local body shops (or just check the yellow pages), get a comprehensive, written estimate or two, keep copies, and present the originals to the woman's employer. If he's serious about not "getting insurance involved" (and there may well be a reason for that), you might walk away with that check.

Your car can only be "totaled" by an insurance company.

Usually a company (same with personally owners) would rather pay damages outright than give it to their insurance companies to keep their premiums down. At $1500 dollars, I am not sure which way a company would go for that amount.
Be cool with the owner, but don’t let him string you along.
P.S. allot of body shops will not give a car as old as yours a estimate (cause they know they will most likely not a dime). Go to a bady shop, tell him you want a estimate to paint and install a CF hood and fenders. Then price the parts and give that to the owner.

Good luck!
