That's Dave Clark and his "shopyard" in the pics. :-) He built the air canon in his spare time. The thing is incredible. It has interchangeable barrels for different types of ammo (spuds, 16oz plastic soda bottle, corn on the cob, beer cans). He says its great for passing time at rallys. :-) I shot it once using a 16oz water-filled soda bottle as ammo. Puts my hairspray pvc canon to shame. :-)

p.s. Mychailo - isn't Dave the one who put together the "custom" rear bar?

Yep, he did my rear sway bar, my 5MT conversion, and he assembled my new exhaust.

And he'd be the one to work on the front bar we were discussing?....

Harry,
I got about 75% of the job done over the weekend. I'm basically down to fabricating brackets to mount the trans cooler in the wheel well and running new ATF hoses between all the pieces. Sunday might just be problematic if I can't find a couple of hours this week - especially since I still haven't had time to isolate why I don't have AWD.

Is this one of those Mercedes club crosses Harry? What would the chances that I could run if I'd make it down? Winchester VA right???

I need lots of practice. I lost to a Jetta this past Sunday . Granted it was very slick for my falkens and torque level. I had no trouble getting her up to 3rd gear without really moving. I'd just spin. I guess I shouldn't have mashed the gas so much. Would've come closer my last run had I not taken out my first cone in the last 4 times out.

Yes. this is one of the Mercedes Club autocrosses. Every other month we are at the Winchester Lot at Millbrook High School. Check out the web site at >www.gws-mbca.org< for directions / results from previouse autocrosses, etc.

As for being able to run at the autocross: You would probably be able to run if you get there early. The club tries to keep the number down to 50 participants since there are at least three pratice runs in the morning and the official "best of three" runs in the afternoon. At most SCCA events, it is three runs - period / total. Of course they usually have more than a 100 cars running too. We decided long ago that we would not try to manage that many cars - it is WORK to run an autocross!

Bottom line, you need to be there by 7:30 - 8:00 AM in order to get on the list to run. All of the 50 slots have prepaid season participants (therby technically eliminating anyone showing up and being able to run), however, there are usually a number of the prepaid folks that "don't show up". And if they are not there by 9:00 AM, their slot is given up to the folks on the "wait list". So getting there early is essential if you have any hope of getting one of the "no-show" slots. And then there is no guarantee you will have a slot if you are down on the list or there were few "no-shows".

But come on down to Winchester. There are good odds you will get a slot. And if not, this is a good bunch of guys and gals to hang with and enjoy watching the others run. If you need any additional info, please let me know!

Harry

BTW, once you get to the Mercedes web site, click on the autocross section in the top left. Then click on the 25 July event for directions, etc.

And, of course, I plan to camp out on the parking lot Saturday night.
