oil dipstick pops out??
I know i saw something about this awhile back, but i can't seem to find it... what would cause the oil dipstick to pop out like half an inch? umm no leaking, no other problems really just that. (no CE light either)

PCV valve clogged? The bottom end is getting pressurized and popping the dipstick to release the pressure.

it's either the PVC is clogged or the rubber o-ring around the dipstick isn't doing it's job anymore. I changed my PVC valve and still had the problem.
the o-ring path is easiest to try first. Cut off the old one using a razor knife and take it in with you to a hardware store - match it up and put it on the dipstick. I think it cost me 17 cents at my local Ace Hardware - just make sure to ask one of the old hands in there if the material can handle oil. |

The size of the O ring is 8.8 X 1.9 mm. You can also get one at the local Suby dealership - part number 806908080 for about $1.00. I found that replacing the O ring usually fixes the problem. Good luck.

There is probable a blockage in this area, where the elbow pipe connects to the cam cover pipe passages. Can gum up like the rest of this area. Disconnect the two hoses off the cam covers, block one of them and blow into the other. It should be free to flow air, out the small elbow pipe. Harvey.

Even more lazy...
I noticed mine doing that approx. a year ago, just for "grits & Shins" I decided to rotate the dipstick 180 degrees in the tube to see if that would keep it from popping out.
It worked...I guessed that after 10+years that the dipstick kinda formed to the contour of the tube & rotating it caused it to rest against the inside of the tube again with enough pressure to keep it from popping out. May just be the SVX "Gods" messing with me again, but for a year or so now, no more pop-up problem. |
