Engine cranks a few seconds before starting

I has a SVX a few years ago but sold it, now I just bought another on, it's a 92 but low mileage, about 67,000 now. It has had the transmission redone so I am hoping it's good for a long time, anyway, ever since I got it, the engine does not start up immediately like it should, it runs fine after that and it doesn't seem to matter much if it is hot or cold , the engine I mean. On my other SVX I added a solenoid to the main starter wire but I can't remember if that was for a situation like this or something else,, if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate any advice, thanks, Vernon
