92 Keeps Dying

I have a 92 svx. 2 weeks ago it started dying when I'm driving. I throw it in neutral, it starts right back up. It seems electrical to me because it starts right back up. I only use super and I did put some heet in it last week. The only thing I know is bad, is one of the 02 sensors. Any Ideas?

MAF.
If you check your codes it most likely be a Q23, bad Mass Air Flow sensor.
If you don't know how to check codes go to the members list, look up earthworm, go to his website and it will tell you.

Ditto, exactly what happened to me and that was what it was.

Re: 92 Keeps Dying

The contacts inside can be re-soldered quite easily. I fixed one of mine that way. There's a "How to" on here somewhere.

Re: 92 Keeps Dying

if you unplug it when the car is off it will run without it. pretty easy way to see if that is the problem and limp it around until you get a new one.

Unhappy Re: 92 Keeps Dying

Tried unplugging MAF. Started it and it ran for about 10 seconds then died. 3 times.

Re: 92 Keeps Dying

Check all of the vacuum lines at the snorkus.
Two 1/2" lines on the drivers side, a big 1" from the drivers side attaching to the back on the passenger side,
a 1/2" line on the passenger side coming in from the passenger side valve cover,
a 1/2" PCV line coming straight up on the passenger side,
and a 1/2" J shaped line on the passenger side.

was the key off when you unplugged it? can you keep it running by holding down the gas?

Re: 92 Keeps Dying

Yes, the key was off. I just tried it again, and if I keep my foot in it about 1200 rpm it will run. I took my foot off the gas and it slowly died.

Re: 92 Keeps Dying

First off, thanks for all the help. I was ready to resolder the maf, before I did that I sprayed it (the heat wire) with brake cleaner, Problem solved. Also when I was checking the vac lines, for some reason the guy I bought it from had put 2 fuel filters on the cruise control vac line. Not sure what his thinking was on that, I cut those out and hey! my cruise control works!

And the cruise control has its own electric vacuum pump!
