Re: Outback gets new sneakers

I've never had a bad set of Kumho's. Though I wouldn't touch a Solus with a 10 foot pole for my driving style and short distance driving I think you'll be happy with 'em in almost all conditions as far as budget all-arounders goes.

Re: Outback gets new sneakers

Thanks for the input, I almost settled for the Sumitomos. Figured it would be a better choice to pony up for the kumohs. As far as price, the Cooper CS4s I had previously only lasted 30,000 so they pro-rated them. Warranty was good up to 80k. Does 30k sound about right? I don't buy tires too often. I figured I'd get at least 50k out of them.

Re: Outback gets new sneakers

I think it depends a lot on your driving habits and especially on the condition of the roads you travel.
Around here the roads are very rough with a lot of broken pavement from frost damage and logging trucks. Our tires and the tires on our friends cars always seem to wear out well before what they are rated for.
The truth is the majority of people never cash in on the pro-rated mileage warranty on tires. They just say they were no good and buy a different tire the next time.
I would have recommended these:http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....96&autoModel=L Hancook H727

We put them on our daughter's '97 Outback and they were excellent. When we sold the car after 3 years with the snows on it, they still had tons of tread left. We sold them to a friend of hers who drives a '97 Legacy GT.

Re: Outback gets new sneakers

I'll keep those in mind for next time. My selection was limited do to it being a small affordable shop. btw. looks like PA is #3 in the worst roads in America I drive about 12 miles a day, 5 days a week back and forth to work twice a day through town. Zero highway driving.
