PAS Leak, is a cooler fitted ?

I changed the famous O Ring, and thought the job was done, but no, I still have a leak.

The strange thing is that the leaking PAS oil seems to be coming through the radiator, it is sprayed all over the battery and cam belt cover as if it has a heat exchanger fitted in front of the rad that is leaking. It is PAS fluid, my header tank is emptying, its not ATF from the AT oil coooler in the base of the rad. Its a '97 car.

According to the exploded diagrams we have no oil cooler, just a simple circuit betweed the pump and the rack.

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Arthur

It appears on this parts diagram from the How To section:

You can see the diagram bottom centre, and the part number is higher up in #3 column. It's listed as 13 - Cooler Pipe. Part number is 34620PA000.

The price shown is $99.98. It might be worth your while Checking your local dealer for this part number, it's not so expensive. At least the USA price is not!

Don't tell him it's for an SVX Just ask him for the part number price. My guess is the same pipe cools the steering oil for the Impreza and the Legacy. No doubt if you check they will have a different price depending whether you order it for an SVX or for an Impreza.

Re: PAS Leak, is a cooler fitted ?

Joe, I found another site by searching on the part number:

http://opposedforces.com/parts/svx/e...llustration_1/

Looks like a useful resource.

Yes good find, nice big pictures have to look out for your car. I'm a non paid member of the Hampshire Japanese Car Club which is very active around the Portsmouth area so it would be nice to meet up some time.

Re: PAS Leak, is a cooler fitted ?

Job done, the cooler pipe had rusted through so it has been removed and bypassed, I cant see any need for it in the UK. I guess they design for Death Valley in the US.

I did go to a Jap car club meeting in Tesco's car park at Havant a couple of years ago, I didnt see any SVX's mainly cap on backward drivers in Imprezas.
I am actually on Hayling, we have another SVX on Hayling a Silver one, mine is Green. I saw another post from a Lovedean member, maybe we should have a Hampshire meet.

I am the Lovedean member, yes the club does have its fair share of those but nowadays there are a few more of us shall I say mature guys in the club it would be great to meet up some time as there seems to be a cluster of us in this relatively small area.
I guy called Gez has just posted on the HJC forum and would be interestecd in meeting up he lives on Hayling Island just past the double bends so once I've got the car back from the spray shop we should all meet up.

Sounds good to me I should have the spray work done by then so the car should look its best. I'll contact Gez and let him know as I think his is off the road at the moment.

Re: PAS Leak, is a cooler fitted ?

Guys, I'm really looking forward to seeing you pull this meeting together.

Above is a picture from the NATIONAL summer meet at the JAE in 2007. Three cars.

Two of the three are mine, the silver ones, and the green one belongs to Phil and Belha. We did find that a disappointing turnout.

It will be good if you can manage to get a three car meet set up. Nice to have something happening in 2009.

Re: PAS Leak, is a cooler fitted ?

Yes well it's looking like a meet will take place and hopefully have a few photos of it as well. With three of us in Hampshire two guys on Hayling Island and me about 10 miles away from them both we're bound to see each other and of course the owner of the silver one is also a member of the Hampshire Jap Car Club which has regular meetings. Arthur UK did try one of the Jap car meetings a long time ago when it was in its early days and nowadays there are more older members other than the cap on backwards hatchet faced youths.
