Insuring your SVX

Hi all,

My insurance is up for renewal in a few days and I wondered where everyone insures their SVX's and whether there are any special schemes. Mines a 1994car so nearly 15 years old so may qualify under a classic car scheme soon.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Re: Insuring your SVX

In Marylans, to qualify as a "historic vehicle", the vehicle must be 20 years or older, and must not have been substantially altered, remodeled, or remanufactured from its original construction.

Historic vehicle 60 years or older may obtain a one-time, permanent, non-transferable registration and cannot have personal vanity plates.

When any vehicle is registered in Maryland as a "historic vehicle", the owner certifies the vehicle will be maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, occasional transportation and similar uses.

The vehicle owner further certifies the vehicle will not be used for general daily transportation or primarily for the transportation of passengers or property on highways.

Re: Insuring your SVX

With all insurance, take special note of any fine print covering modifications. Here lies a trap for young player.

I am using Heritage Classic Car insurance specialists for my car in Taunton. The policy is limited mileage [5000 I think] and they give me a discount for being a member of the Matra Club, but at least they already have an SVX on the books if you ring them.

Their number is 0845 373 4777. The girl handling my stuff is called Donna IIRC.

Re: Insuring your SVX

I tried to get classic insurance for my SVX but was refused because I was going to use it in connection with my business. In the end I used the same company who insure my RX7 they were actually only about £100 more than the classic no business option they are A Plan in Thatcham Berkshire may be worth giving them a call.

Re: Insuring your SVX

When I had mine, one of the cheapest then was Tescos! Except they didn't do grey import, which scuppered me. I was at Liverpool Victoria latterly and they were one of the cheapest for my Skyline I had after the SVX

Re: Insuring your SVX

Up here in the Great White North (Canada) I use CAA Insurance. 2 million liability, full collision with $250.00 deductible, rental car if needed, and one free accident as well as full comprehensive, $100.00 deductible for the windshield, cost $988.00 per year this for a 1996 SVX.

Re: Insuring your SVX

I only have liability on mine at the moment, but will up it to comprehensive once the body is all pretty and rust-free, hopefully next summer. I pay $57/month now, and was quoted $102/month for comprehensive. Not bad for a 23 year old male driver.
