Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread
Thanks for the pics of the oil pump. How do you reseal it, RTV? I heard somewhere it can leak if not sealed properly.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread
I'll have to pull all the bolts and seal them. I have to say it was pretty easy, I just wish there was more info here on it. Here are some observations I wish I knew beforehand.
1. There is nothing that is going to fall out when you remove the pump. 2. The crank seal comes off with the pump. 3. There are 2 alignment pins. One upper left and 1 lower right. 4. You will most likely need a steering wheel puller to get the crank gear off. (Autozone has a free rental with $20 deposit IIRC its part #2027) 5. The info Tom just provided. Can you run the engine with no rad or accessories and for how long to check for proper timing or leaks?

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread
I wouldn't run it for long. Water pumps don't like to pump air too much

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread
Well I haven't really been around these parts much in the last few months, or on any of the forums really. Funny how life can shift priorities like that.
Unfortunately since it's been such a long time, I know I've forgotten a fair amount of the stuff involved, but I just found a pile of invoices tonight when I was cleaning the garage so I should be able to put together a parts list from them if they're the correct ones. It's late now, but I'll try to answer the questions to the best of my ability over the next few days, and I'm sure plenty of people on here can fill in any blanks/correct any mistakes in my posts. For an update, besides the strange noise that's never gone away and the crank pulley rubbing the timing belt cover everything is running well. The car has been getting a fair amount of use in the nice weather, but not on the really hot days because I like my A/C.
