Hi there and you are very welcome to the Network

What you are describing sounds like you have the rear drive binding. It is most noticable on turning and you will feel the rear wheels snatching when you turn on a loose surface.

Your last owner probably knew about this if he/she was the one to put in the fuse.

Now you need to browse and learn in the How To section above . First thing you need to do is download the error codes, both for the engine, if any, and for the transmission. Each of these has a different way of getting the information. You will find out how to do both there.

{If it is only the rear transfer clutch binding, this can be repaired without taking off the gearbox completely}

Meantime put back in the fuse, you don't want to be stressing everything till you find out what you have to fix.

When you have read the codes, get back to us with more detail.

Joe

Well like I said, now that you have a problem would be a good time to start learning for yourself on how to troubleshoot.

At the top right hand side of this page is a set of links, one leads to the How To section.

The information you want is under Electrical.

You can see explicit pictorial instruction in one of the documents, which is a pdf.
[if you can't read pdfs on your computer you need to go to Adobe.com and download the free pdf reader]

Instructions: http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/How-To/33055.pdf

There is also a Word document which explains both how to get your engine error codes, and the one you want, the transmission [aka TCU] error codes.
Available Here: http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/How-To/25335.doc

When you find out what codes you may have come back on here and we may be able to help more.

Joe

Rear end shudder

when i first bought my SVX i had a similar problem it turned out to be the transmission mount. The extra play in the drive line would cause the system to bind. It was especially bad when turning out of a road(ie from a stop with the wheel turned) Check this out first as it is an easy fix and way cheaper then a rear diff.

It's fairly common and an easy fix. The whine can be caused by cavitation in the pump. This happens because of a bad O ring between the reservoir and the pump, about a 70c item.

Check the How To documents, look for O ring fix.
