Power steering hose replacement...
From the pump at resevoir to the steering rack. How hard is this to replace and how much is this hose (high pressure and fittings).
Thanks Dave |

It's a bit of a pain to do, just due to it being difficult to get to.
I took mine to a local shop that does hydralic hoses, and had it rebuilt for $20 (I think) which is WAY cheaper than a new Subaru Hose...

I went to two hydraulic repair facitlities, no go....
They both said that the fittings on the ends which connect to the hard lines are one time crush fittings. My leaks were extremely close to the fitting on the top portion of the hose. There would be no way I could have had a piece of hose spliced in (which is the only way I could see it using the existing fittings).
$113 and two days to get it from Subaru. Dave |

The high pressure hose design changed over the years. Earlier years have a pipe running behind the injectors leading to the flexible hose. Later models have a one piece hose/pipe that runs further away from the injectors.
For mine (early model) we were able to manufacture a new flex hose and keep the existing connectors (welded on) however there's not enough material left over to replace the hose if it fails again.

The hose guys I talked to said...
...they can weld onto the stock fittings (if needs be) for not much more than $40-50.
Mine checked out so good that they said it didn't need to be rebuilt. Lucky me! Cheers!
